    Abstract: Surgical devices having a plurality of outwardly-biased flexible fins capable of both inward convergence and outward flexion, provide for fluid retention and soft tissue retraction during surgical procedures. The outwardly-biased flexible fins also provide for soft tissue compression, decreasing the length of the lumen or passageway through which instruments pass, allowing for a wider range of movement of instruments and better access to the surgical site, especially in patients with greater amounts of fat tissue that would otherwise require longer lumen lengths in prior art endoscopic cannulas. An obturator assembly including a cannulated handle member with a cannulated shaft attached to said handle member, said shaft extending distally and terminating at a cannulated obturator tip. A hood structure found on such obturator tip may be used to secure one or more flexible fins prior to deployment.

    Abstract: A graft compression system for compressing soft tissue grafts used in connection with reconstructive surgery on the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL). The graft compression system includes a compression chamber having an elongate hollow shaft body having two ends that are threaded to mate with correspondingly threaded collet nuts. Collets are removably inserted into, and engage, the collet nuts fastened to opposing ends of the compression chamber A surgical graft may be inserted into a hollow compression tube having a lumen with a compressible diameter, said compression tube being sized for insertion into the collets and compression chamber. When such collet nuts are tightened by a user of the graft compression system, the inner diameters of the respective collet nuts nested within such collet nuts are decreased, causing the diameter of the lumen of the hollow compression tube to in turn be decreased and compress the surgical graft within.

An obturator configured to be used in conjunction with the aforementioned cannula has an obturator shaft with a distal portion having a reduced diameter, wherein said obturator shaft is insertable into said lumen of said cannula. In other embodiments, a surgical device deployment tool comprises a handle member with a shaft attached to a distal end of said handle member, said shaft extending distally and terminating at a shaft head. A hollow hood is attached to said shaft head, said hood having an inner surface formed such that a gap exists between said inner surface and an adjacent outside surface of said shaft head.

The fin embodiment including a slot formed therein, with a corresponding raised feature on the trocar shaft capable of engaging the slots. Inward movement of the trocar within the cannula lumen causes the fins to converge. An additional embodiment utilizes outwardly-biased flexible fins that lock together in a closed position, with corrugated features in the fin inner surface that contact the trocar shaft such that, upon insertion of the trocar, the fins unlock and splay outward. One or more of the flexible fins also including one or more penetrations for accepting a biasing device for altering the biasing force of the fin.
