Abstract: Compositions of matter containing a compound which is a member selected from the group consisting of hydroxymethylaminoacetic acids, its salts and lower alkyl esters, and one or more 3-isothiazolones are disclosed. The compositions provide synergistic microbial growth inhibition and biocidal activity in a wide range of substances requiring antimicrobial protection.
Abstract: A composition of matter comprising a major part of imidazolidinyl urea and a minor part of pyrithione and/or one or more derivatives of pyrithione is disclosed. The composition exhibits synergistic anti-microbial activity.
Abstract: A composition of matter comprised of cinnamaldehyde and one or more esters of p-hydroxybenzoic acid, commonly known as parabens, is disclosed. The composition exhibits synergistic activity against a wide range of microorganisms which contaminate ingestible products.
Abstract: N-(hydroxymethyl)-N-(1,3-dihydroxymethyl-2,5-dioxo-4-imidazolidinyl)-N'-(hy droxymethyl)urea prepared by the reaction of allantoin with formaldehyde is disclosed. The compound exhibits activity against bacteria, mold and yeast and hence is useful as a preservative for products susceptible to microbial contamination.
Abstract: New antimicrobial agents are produced by the reaction of allantoin and glutaraldehyde. Substances which are subject to microbial spoilage are preserved by the addition of these products. They are effective against bacteria, yeasts and molds. Solutions of these new antimicrobial agents can also be used by themselves as disinfectants, sterilants, sanitizers, or embalming fluids.
Abstract: Compounds formed by condensation reactions of glutaraldehyde with various nitrogen-containing compounds are disclosed. The compounds exhibit anti-microbial activity and are useful in a method of protecting products susceptible to microbial contamination.
Abstract: A biocidal composition containing the product produced by the reaction of glycine, an alkyl substituted glycinate, or salts of these compounds with formaldehyde is disclosed. The composition effectively inhibits growth of bacteria, yeast and mold in a variety of substances susceptible to microbial contamination.
