  • Patent number: 8490945
Abstract: A valve includes a valve body, a valve element to selectively control flow through the valve, and a seal member and seat member together providing a fluid-tight seal between a valve cavity and a fluid passage in the valve body. A live-loaded biasing member is adapted to apply a live-loaded sealing force to the seat member to bias the seat member toward sealing engagement with the valve element. When the pressure in the fluid passage exceeds the pressure in the valve cavity, an unbalanced passage pressure load biases the seat member toward sealing engagement with the valve element. When the pressure in the valve cavity exceeds the pressure in the fluid passage, an unbalanced cavity pressure load biases the seat member toward sealing engagement with the valve element. The live-loaded sealing force is in parallel with each of the unbalanced passage pressure load and the unbalanced cavity pressure load.

  • Patent number: 8448670
Abstract: A hose for use in bio-pharmaceutical applications includes an innermost tubular layer made from a fluoropolymer material. The tubular layer has an inner, relatively smooth and pure surface that defines an opening for transfer of various media. A layer of silicone is disposed next to an outer surface of the innermost tubular layer through use of, for example, an extrusion method. The outer surface of the tubular layer may first be modified by various treatments or chemicals to facilitate the adhesion of the silicone layer thereto. The silicone material may be solid or foamed. A reinforcement layer may be disposed adjacent to an outer surface of the silicone layer. The reinforcement layer may be formed of a wire braid having gaps. An outer jacket of silicone may be attached to the reinforcement layer and to the inner silicone layer through the gaps in the reinforcement layer.

  • Patent number: 8439407
Abstract: A fitting for a tube or pipe capable of functioning a high pressures having a first fitting component adapted to receive the conduit end; a conduit gripping device such as a ferrule or ferrules and a second fitting component that can be joined to the first fitting component to cause the conduit gripping device to grip the conduit and seal when assembled. In one aspect of the invention, the first fitting component is constructed from a material that is softer than the material used to construct the second fitting component. An additional aspect of the invention include a retaining portion on the second fitting component that constrains the tube gripping device against pressure. The retaining portion can also be configured to retain the tube gripping device to the second fitting component prior to installation and in a finger-tight condition.
