Abstract: This invention relates to urethane acrylic hybrid polymer dispersion with robust dry/wet adhesion and the basecoats prepared therefrom for automotive applications. In this system, the polyurethane dispersion (PUD) prepolymer is based on a combination of polyols and aliphatic diisocyanates. The acrylic portion is based on (meth)acrylated monomers. A combination of this hybrid polymer dispersion and other resins having defined glass transition temperature (Tg) values, organic and/or inorganic rheology modifiers, and different additives including pigment, dispersant, and defoamer are used to prepare waterborne basecoats having modified appearance and performance. The final coatings show excellent dry/wet adhesion to the primer for automotive applications.

Abstract: An article, comprising a packaging article such as food or beverage container (20), or a portion thereof, that includes a substrate (30, 32) and a coating (34) disposed on at least a portion of the substrate (30, 32). The coating (34) is preferably formed from a coating composition that comprises a latex emulsion having a first-stage copolymer, a second-stage copolymer, and a linkage interconnecting the first-stage copolymer and the second-stage copolymer prior to curing.
Abstract: Embodiments of the present invention includes methods for dispensing and an apparatus for dispensing. In particular embodiments, the barrel design of an apparatus for dispensing and provided in a method for dispensing is formed to encase and/or engage a material container. By encasing and/or engaging the material container within the barrel, expansion, such as tube expansion, is reduced and/or eliminated.

Abstract: An aqueous coating composition is provided that is preferably substantially free of styrene and structural units derived from styrene. The coating composition includes a resin system that preferably includes a water-dispersible polymer and an emulsion polymerized ethylenically unsaturated monomer component. The resin system is preferably formed using a process that includes emulsion polymerizing the ethylenically unsaturated monomer component in the presence of an aqueous dispersion including the water-dispersible polymer. In certain preferred embodiments, the water-dispersible polymer is a salt of an acid- or anhydride-functional aromatic polyether polymer.
Abstract: A polymer-encapsulated pigment dispersion is prepared from a mixture of (a) a carrier; (b) pigment particles; and (c) a polymeric dispersing agent having a polymer backbone, and a zwitterionic polymer side chain comprising anionic and cationic groups. The dispersing agent may provide efficient pigment wetting and dispersion using relatively low and thus economical pigment amounts, with good opacity and good hiding characteristics, especially in titanium dioxide-containing coating compositions.

Abstract: An icephobic coating composition forms a coating layer that melts ice and snow upon contract and remains durable after several exposures to winter storms. The icephobic coating composition includes about 2.5% to about 12.5% by weight of latex polymer solids; about 30% to about 70% by weight of an inorganic halide salt; about 15% to about 50% by weight water; and about 1% to about 15% by weight of an organic co-solvent selected from glycerin, glycols, and glycol ethers. An alternative icephobic coating composition includes about 1% to about 20% by weight of a solution polymer instead of a latex polymer, and about 10% to about 40% by weight of a VOC-exempt organic solvent instead of the foregoing water and co-solvent.
