  • Patent number: 4108310
Abstract: A blood pressure testing kit having the usual elements, namely, pressure gauge, humeral cuff, pump, bleed valve, and appropriate interconnections, and a stethoscope, is provided with a case which is in two parts hinged together but made of one integral piece of "living hinge" plastic material. One part of the case provides for storing all the said elements but the pressure gauge, which is mounted in the other case part, which acts also as lid for the same part. When the case is open, all the elements are manually accessible for use in blood pressure testing, and at the same time, the pressure gauge can be read while the testing procedure is being carried out.

  • Patent number: 4106159
Abstract: A hinge includes a spring biased rod which is biased towards a supporting bracket. When the hinge is rotated to a certain position, the biased rod drops into a notch located on the supporting bracket. This arrangement, retains the lid of a kiln in an open position relative to the body of the kiln.

  • Patent number: 4105411
Abstract: Disclosed is a device for determining the activated clotting time of a blood sample, the device being a hand held unit for holding a glass tube containing the blood sample to be tested. The unit includes an electric heater for maintaining the blood sampe at 37.degree. C and an electronic timer. A digital display on the unit can be selectively programmed to display either a temperature or a time function. Upon obtaining the desired temperature, the electronic timer is started and the blood sample is virtually observed in order to determine the elapsed time before the blood sample begins to clot.

  • Patent number: 4074963
Abstract: A kiln has a bottom opening for loading the objects to be fired into the firing chamber. The door for closing the firing chamber provides the hearth of the kiln and supports the objects to be fired. A parallel linkage mechanism maintains the door in a horizontal orientation as it is moved from the closed position wherein the objects to be fired are in the kiln, to the open position wherein the objects are supported in front of the kiln.

  • Patent number: 4065965
Abstract: An electromagnetic flowmeter having a flow tube wherein the electrodes leads pass through potting material forming part of the lining of the flow tube. The leads emerge at the exterior of the flow tube at three points, two of which substantially are at the electrodes, and one of which is between the two electrodes, via conduits embedded in the potting material and exiting from the flow tube at said points. The leads are accessible for repair or replacement.

  • Patent number: 4065391
Abstract: A distributor that supplies either a liquid or a gas to a bed of granular media, such as a sand filter, is divided by inclined interior walls into primary and secondary horizontal conduits that extend parallel to each other. Gas metering orifices are positioned at an intermediate level in the inclined walls and liquid metering orifices are positioned beneath the gas metering orifices in the inclined walls. A liquid or a gas is supplied to the primary conduits, passes through the metering orifices into the secondary conduits, and through dispersion orifices in the secondary conduits into the filter bed. At least some of the secondary conduits are each connected to at least two primary conduits so that liquid can flow from one primary conduit through a secondary conduit to another primary conduit to compensate for inequalities of flow along the primary conduits.

  • Patent number: 4059529
Abstract: A baffle for use in sewage or water settling tanks and the like which helps in establishing a substantially uniform flow of liquid down the tank across its entire vertical cross sectional area by dissipating as much of the energy of the incoming fluid stream as possible before allowing the fluid to flow down the settling tank. The energy of the stream is dissipated in part by deflectors which are arranged to direct the flow of liquid into and around a dead space prior to discharge into the settling tank.

  • Patent number: 4054520
Abstract: A scum removal system for sewage settling tanks and the like employs a floating skimmer system which is lowered onto the surface of the liquid at one end of the tank and then moved toward the opposite end where floating materials collected by the skimmer are passed into a scum trough. At the trough end of the tank, the skimmer is raised from the surface of the liquid and returned to the first end while being held above the liquid surface. Continuous flow into the scum trough is prevented by a floating beach hinged to the scum trough. The beach is submerged as the skimmer approaches so that flow over the submerged beach carries the collected materials into the scum trough. Flow over the submerged beach is controlled by the depth as well as the length of time that the beach is held beneath the surface.

  • Patent number: 4051444
Abstract: A magnetic flowmeter system having a high impedance double ended AC preamplifier stage for amplifying voltages induced in a fluid flowing in and transverse to the field of an AC energized electromagnet. The preamplifier output voltages are amplified in a single-ended AC amplifier. The output voltage of the AC amplifier is demodulated by a phase sensitive detector. The DC output voltage is divided by a DC voltage derived from the AC source of energization for the electromagnet, so a net output voltage results which is free of common mode and quadrature voltages and independent of field fluctuations, but is obtained without feedback to the input of the system.

  • Patent number: 4039811
Abstract: A power supply and timing circuit for an X-ray tube capable of maintaining constant X-ray exposure values and stable peak plate voltage despite relatively large variations in the voltage of the source from which the power supply is fed. The cathode-to-plate current in the X-ray tube is varied responsively to changes in the voltage of the source, thereby varying the load on the high voltage transformer and holding its output voltage at a constant value despite changes in the source voltage. Changes in the cathode-to-plate current may be compensated for by the use of a milliampere-second integrator to time the exposure.

  • Patent number: 4032452
Abstract: The electrical efficiency of an electrically regenerated ion exchange system is improved by using elongated ion exchange members having a continuous ion exchange phase that is more conductive in the exhausted form than it is in the regenerated form. Preferably, the system includes anion exchange members that extend through the wall of the demineralization compartment closest to the anode but do not extend through the wall of the demineralization compartment closest to the cathode, and cation exchange members that extend through the wall of the demineralization compartment closest to the cathode but do not extend through the wall of the demineralization compartment closest to the anode.

  • Patent number: 4028460
Abstract: A grating comprising preformed fiber reinforced resin strips stacked in the positions of the intersecting bars of the grating and with the strips interleaving at the points of intersection, the reinforcement strips being embedded in a resin matrix. The method for making the grating comprises forcing the fiber reinforced strips with the fibers under tension, and assembling such preformed strips in a mold having a network of intersecting cavities for defining the grating bars, the cavities being initally charged with liquid hardenable resin material, so that the reinforcement strips are submerged in the liquid resin during assembly, the embedment resin being subsequently hardened.
