Abstract: Described is an electronic device which includes a body, an optical opening in the body and a removable cover. The body contains an optical scanner and a slot for a removable integrated circuit (“IC”) card. The optical opening provides an optical path from an external environment to the optical scanner. The removable cover which, when in a closed position coupled to the body, covers the slot and the optical opening. The cover includes a cover opening extending therethrough and, when the cover is in the closed position, the cover opening is aligned with the optical opening to permit light to enter and exit therethrough.

Abstract: A barcode symbol having an encoded symbology is provided with color or shades of gray to add additional information at the time of printing. The color or shades of gray provides the current barcode symbology with a third dimension of information. The color or shades of gray can encode information over a specific one-dimensional or two-dimensional symbology. White spaces can be replaced with colors or shades of gray to add coded information to the standard one-dimensional and two-dimensional codes. The number of colors and how they are distributed or arranged can provide the basic backbone of information. A barcode reader that can detect the different color spectrums, can be employed to decode the information. Furthermore, color is not limited to white spaces, but can be implemented into black spaces. Additionally, colored background information can provide additional information to the current symbology.
Abstract: A scanner device includes a body portion with an optical scanner module at a first forward end and having a keypad and display mounted on an upper surface. The handle portion extends from the body portion near the forward end and is oriented at a selected angle to cause a second rearward end of the bottom surface of the body portion to rest on the radial surface of a user's hand when a user grips the handle.
Abstract: A system that facilitates desirable orientation of a display on a machine data reader comprises a keypad that is moveable with respect to a body of the machine data reader, the keypad utilized to relay information to the machine data reader. The system further comprises a component that senses a position of the keypad, and a component that orients the display based at least in part upon the sensed position of the keypad.
Abstract: Described is a system with a light pipe body having a first end and a second end, wherein a light source provides light beams at a first end of the light pipe body, the light beams traveling through the light pipe body. The system further includes a light-emitting surface coupled to the second end of the light pipe body, wherein the light beams travel from the light pipe body to the light-emitting surface. The system also has dispersion structures disposed on a surface of the light-emitting surface, wherein the dispersion structures are protrusions from the surface of the light-emitting surface, the light beams traveling from the light-emitting surface to the dispersion structures and being emitted from the dispersion structures at a plurality of angles.
Abstract: Methods, systems, and apparatuses for a radio frequency identification (RFID) tag tester/programmer and marker are described. A surface is in contact with a web of RFID tags. The surface has a first portion and a second portion. The first portion of the surface is grounded to ground tags of the web that are in contact with the first portion. A radio frequency (RF) source transmits a RF signal to interact with a tag adjacent to the second portion of the surface. The RF signal may be a signal for testing the tag and/or a signal for programming the tag.
Abstract: An arrangement for determining light beam position in an electro-optical reader, image projector and like devices includes a drive for moving a scanning light beam at a scan frequency across a target as a scan line, and an electro-optical feedback assembly operatively connected to the drive, for optically detecting scan line position during beam movement, and for generating a feedback signal at the scan frequency, the feedback signal being indicative of the scan line position. A feedback coil in the drive is eliminated to avoid electromagnetic coupling between multiple coils in the drive.

Abstract: According to an embodiment is a system that selectively permits or denies access to a restricted environment. Access can be based at least in part on the status of wireless transmitters of a mobile device, the status is one of active or inactive wireless communication. The system can automatically inactivate or disable a transmitter through a wireless command and thereafter permit access to the restricted environment. The mobile device can communicate wirelessly through one of a wireless local-area networks (WLAN), wireless wide-area network (WWAN), wireless personal-area network (WPAN).

Abstract: A system and method for providing a communication port integral with a battery pack assembly is disclosed. The system provides a pathway between an external unit and a host unit via a printed circuit board of the battery pack. The battery pack can include communication ports mounted on the printed circuit board for interfacing with external units. The printed circuit board further includes a substrate(s) formed with a predetermined wiring pattern electrically and/or mechanically joined to the CPU of the host unit, as well as the battery cell(s).
Abstract: A mobile computer and a reader are provided that may be constructed as a standard modular attachment (e.g. sled) for the computer that may be used only when RFID interrogation is desired. The sled may carry an antenna loop, integrated RFID reader electronics, and a dedicated battery that are separate from the actual mobile computer.
Abstract: A wireless local area network is provided with simplified RF ports which are configured to provide lower level media access control functions. Higher level media access control functions are provided in a cell controller, which may service one or more RF ports that are capable of operating based on a pre-assigned security level. Mobile units can also be configured with the higher level media access control functions being performed in a host processor.
