  • Patent number: 8994501
Abstract: A method and apparatus for selectively reading radio frequency identification device (RFID) tags by an RFID reader includes the RFID reader transmitting an interrogation signal at each of a plurality of power levels beginning with a lowest power level and sequentially increasing power of the transmitted interrogation signal to a highest power level. The RFID reader receives, in response to transmitting the interrogation for at least one of the power levels, at least one data signal from each RFID tag within a read zone of the RFID reader, wherein each of the data signals contains stored data corresponding to the RFID tag responding to the transmission of the interrogation signal. The RFID reader selectively reads the stored data contained in the data signals received from the responding RFID tags.

  • Publication number: 20150056847
Abstract: A cable retention mechanism locks an external connector with an input/output (I/O) connector of an electronic device. The mechanism includes a retention housing having a first surface and a second surface opposite the first surface, the second surface adjacent to the device housing when the retention mechanism and the electronic device are coupled to one another. The mechanism includes a retainer including a mounting arrangement defining a channel receiving a cable of the external connector, the mounting arrangement biased to apply a first retaining force to the cable. The retainer includes a biasing member compressing a portion of the mounting arrangement such that a width of the channel decreases as the channel approaches the second surface, the biasing member applying a second retaining force to the mounting arrangement to increase the first retaining force. • Patent number: 8965303
Abstract: An electronic device includes a main antenna and a diversity antenna. The diversity antenna includes a first portion configured to enable a transceiver to receive a signal in a first low-band frequency of four frequency bands. A second portion enables the transceiver to receive a signal in first and second high-band frequencies. A third portion is RF coupled to the first portion when the third portion is connected to ground. The third portion tunes the first portion such that the transceiver receives a signal in a second low-band frequency. A switch is connected between the third portion and the ground. When the switch is open, the first portion enables the transceiver to receive the signal in the first low-band frequency. When the switch is closed, the third portion tunes the first portion to enable the transceiver to receive the signal in the second low-band frequency.
