  • Patent number: 8934867
Abstract: An on-demand access tunnel to a service provider is provided for a mobile device that first receives information about supported service providers from a wireless communication network entity. The mobile device can select a supported service provider and start an association process to communicate with the selected service provider. The network entity determines the selected service provider and sets up a tunnel connection from an access point of the wireless communication network to the selected service provider. The tunnel connection is torn down when the mobile device dissociates from the access point and no other device is connected to the service provider network using the tunnel connection.

  • Patent number: 8925814
Abstract: A target is read in the presence of interference light. A photodetector generates an output signal composed of an information signal and an interference light signal. A rangefinder determines the distance of the target in a range of working distances. A controller adjusts a scan angle of a scan drive to a narrow value and adjusts an output power of a laser diode to a low power level when the target is determined to be far out in the range. The controller adjusts the scan angle to a wide value and adjusts the output power to a high power level when the target is determined to be close in the range. Signal processing circuitry processes the output signal with the information signal having a greater magnitude than that of the interference signal due to the high power level to mitigate the presence of the interference light. A power safety arrangement including dual power monitors checks the output power of the laser beam.

  • Patent number: 8923622
Abstract: A method and system for orientation compensation of a mobile device within an environment includes providing a plurality of reference markers having straight edges and having a defined, regular orientation with respect to the environment. Information about the orientation of the reference markers is supplied to a mobile device operating within the environment. An orientation sensor disposed within the mobile device estimates an orientation of the mobile device. An image of one reference marker is captured, and at least one edge of that reference marker is located. The estimated orientation is compensated by correcting for the reference marker orientation and aligning the corrected estimated orientation to the at least one edge of the reference marker that is closest to being parallel to the corrected estimated orientation.

  • Patent number: 8923893
Abstract: Generating a planogram of a facility in real-time, includes positioning a wireless mobile device at a plurality of geometric positions within the facility. A location of the mobile device at each position is then established using a location mechanism. Each geometric position is then associated with that location of the mobile device. The planogram is then updated with information about the geometric position. The geometric positions are associated with physical objects modeled in the planogram. Non-geometric information can also be obtained at the location of the mobile device, and this non-geometric information can be overlaid onto the planogram.

  • Patent number: 8914289
Abstract: A method for parsing a verbal expression received from a user to determine whether or not the expression contains a multiple-goal command is described. Specifically, known techniques are applied to extract terms from the verbal expression. The extracted terms are assigned to categories. If two or more terms are found in the parsed verbal expression that are in associated categories and that do not overlap one another temporally, then the confidence levels of these terms are compared. If the confidence levels are similar, then the terms may be parallel entries in the verbal expression and may represent multiple goals. If a multiple-goal command is found, then the command is either presented to the user for review and possible editing or is executed. If the parsed multiple-goal command is presented to the user for review, then the presentation can be made via any appropriate interface including voice and text interfaces.
