Abstract: A method of decoding one or more barcodes on a target object with an imaging scanner is described. The imaging scanner comprises an image sensor and a dynamic linear polarizer. The method includes the following: (1) capturing at least one image of the target object through the dynamic linear polarizer with the imaging sensor while the dynamic linear polarizer is set to a different defined polarization during each of N time periods; and (2) processing at least N images of the target object to decode the one or more barcodes on the target object. At least one image that is captured during each of the N time periods. Here, N is an integer that can be three, four, five, six, or other natural numbers.
Abstract: A system and method for selectively activating a radio frequency (RF) identification (RFID) reader within a venue having a point of sale (POS) lane. In various aspects, a first detector detects a POS lane activity state of the POS lane, where the POS lane activity state comprises an active state or an inactive state. A second detector detects a presence of a person in the POS lane, such that a processor, operatively connected to the first detector and the second detector, activates a first a first RFID reader, the first RFID reader having a reading range that extends over the POS lane, the activation occurring upon an indication by the first detector that the POS lane activity state has the inactive state and upon a further indication by the second detector that the person is present within the POS lane.
Abstract: Bluetooth Low Energy nodes are serially-connected with a cable that includes power lines and can include communication wires. The nodes do not have individual batteries. Instead, a single common power source is connected to the wires to provide power for all the nodes. The nodes can also be connected in series with the communication wires (which can be the same as the power wires) along a length of the cable. A headend interface can also be connected at one point of the cable to provide a communication interface with the nodes. The nodes can transmit and/or receive beacons to be used for locationing of mobile devices.

Abstract: A method and system for enabling feedback reduction for half-duplex communications is provided. In operation, a crossing of a proximity threshold between a first device and a second device is determined and a feedback reduction operation is enabled based on the determination. The determination is based on a proximity check based on a near field proximity profile. The feedback reduction operation is at least one of reducing a playback volume to a predetermined level and delaying a playback. To delay playback, when a device enters transmit-mode, it may delay the transmission of received voice input. To reduce the playback volume, when a device enters receive-mode, it may reduce a volume of the audio output apparatus to a predetermined level.
Abstract: Barcode fragments of a barcode symbol to be read by an imaging-based presentation workstation are stitched together by capturing a plurality of images, each containing a barcode fragment and a plurality of features located adjacent to the barcode fragment. The features in each captured image are detected and matched. The barcode fragments are stitched together based on the matched features in the captured images. The barcode symbol is read from the stitched barcode fragments.
Abstract: A system and method for density-based RFID network configuration. In various aspects, an RFID reader executes a read cycle defined by dwell times for a low RFID tag density and a high RFID tag density setting. Accordingly, a controller may cause the RFID reader to implement one or more RFID protocols. The controller may then receive data corresponding to the RFID tags from the RFID reader to determine a number of RFID tags within read range of the RFID reader. Based on the number of RFID tags, the controller may determine an adjustment to the read cycle executed by the RFID reader. The controller may then configure the RFID reader to execute the adjusted read cycle.
Abstract: A system configures a mobile device. The system includes a battery and a mobile device. The battery includes at least one power storage cell and a memory arrangement, the memory arrangement storing staging profile data, the staging profile data including configuration data. The mobile device is configured to be coupled to the battery, the mobile device being powered by the at least one power storage cell, the mobile device receiving the staging profile data from the memory arrangement, the mobile device being automatically configured for communication with a communication network as a function of the configuration data.

Abstract: A method of generating visual data capture feedback at a data capture device includes rendering first and second applications on respective portions of a display of the data capture device. Each of the first and second applications are configured to process data decoded from captured indicia. A memory of the capture device stores configuration data including a first symbology indicator corresponding to a data symbology handled by the first application, and a second symbology indicator corresponding to a data symbology handled by the second application. Responsive to capturing an indicium, the method includes selecting a target application from the first and second applications for processing data decoded from the captured indicium in accordance with one of the first and second data symbology, based on the configuration data; and rendering a visual feedback element on the display within a target portion of the display corresponding to the selected target application.
Abstract: Remotely configurable location tracking tags are provided. A tag broadcasts a tag identifier according to configuration data stored at a memory. The tag receives new configuration data and an associated tag identifier. When the associated tag identifier matches the tag identifier: the tag updates the configuration data stored at the memory with the new configuration data and changes the broadcast of the tag identifier in accordance with the new configuration data. When the associated tag identifier does not match the tag identifier: the tag modifies the broadcast of the tag identifier to include the new configuration data and the associated tag identifier, the broadcast continuing to occur according to the configuration data.
Abstract: A method and apparatus for capturing an image of at least one object appearing in a field of view (FOV). A housing may be provided having an image sensor at least partially disposed therein. The imaging sensor has a central imaging axis. A first and a second aim line unit are each offset from the image sensor. The first aim line unit is oriented to project a first bounded light pattern that intersects the central imaging axis at an imaging plane. The second aim line unit is oriented to project a second bounded light pattern that intersects the first light pattern and the central imaging axis at the imaging plane.

Abstract: An imaging module for reading targets by image capture is mounted as a unitary assembly within an imaging reader. An imager is mounted on a first printed circuit board (PCB), and an interface connector is mounted on a second PCB. The first PCB is in direct, surface-area contact with first chassis walls of a chassis and is positioned to lie in a generally upright, first predetermined plane. The second PCB is in direct, surface-area contact with second chassis walls of the chassis and is positioned to lie in a generally tilted, second predetermined plane that is inclined at a tilt angle relative to the first predetermined plane. The first and second chassis walls are constituted as a one-piece support that maintains the tilt angle between the PCBs.

Abstract: A radio frequency (RF) identification (RFID) reader is mounted in a venue in proximity to a portal that is openable and closable by a door. The portal reader reads RFID object tags associated with objects that approach the portal. An electrical conductor is associated, and jointly movable, with the door. A portal RFID tag is mounted at the portal. The portal tag is overlain by the electrical conductor in a closed door position and is remote from the electrical conductor in an open door position. The portal tag is readable by the portal reader in either the open or the closed door position. A controller identifies any objects that have passed through the portal based on whether the object tags have been read, as well as whether the portal tag has been read in either the open or the closed door position.

Abstract: A technique for locating a wireless communication attack includes monitoring of Bluetooth® communications activity by a Bluetooth® capable communication device. Any monitored communication activity is analyzed against parameters that are predefined to detect a communication attempt by a suspected criminal device to an illicit device. If the communication attempt by the suspected criminal device is detected by the analysis, a communication to the criminal device is controlled so as to delay completion of the communication to the criminal device in order to provide time to locate the criminal device.
