  • Patent number: 9298962
Abstract: A pair of overhead mirror portions splits a field of view of an imager into first and second subfields of view. An illuminating assembly is energized to illuminate a target. A first part of the imager is exposed to capture return illumination light from the target passing through a horizontal window of a workstation over the first subfield of view, and a second part of the imager is alternately and subsequently exposed to capture return illumination light from the target passing through the horizontal window over the second subfield of view.

  • Patent number: 9298957
Abstract: A method of operating a workstation includes capturing multiple monitoring images each being captured with the imaging sensor while the illumination light source is energized during one of multiple short exposure-time-periods, and detecting a checkup-condition that includes analyzing the multiple monitoring images to determine the presence of any adverse feature on workstation's window. Each of the multiple short exposure-time-periods is shorter than four times of a threshold exposure-time-period but no shorter than 25% of the threshold exposure-time-period. The threshold exposure-time-period is a minimal exposure-time-period needed for the imaging sensor to capture recognizable patterns of a barcode that is in directing contacting with the window while the illumination light source is energized.

  • Patent number: 9288922
Abstract: A cable retention mechanism locks an external connector with an input/output (I/O) connector of an electronic device. The mechanism includes a retention housing having a first surface and a second surface opposite the first surface, the second surface adjacent to the device housing when the retention mechanism and the electronic device are coupled to one another. The mechanism includes a retainer including a mounting arrangement defining a channel receiving a cable of the external connector, the mounting arrangement biased to apply a first retaining force to the cable. The retainer includes a biasing member compressing a portion of the mounting arrangement such that a width of the channel decreases as the channel approaches the second surface, the biasing member applying a second retaining force to the mounting arrangement to increase the first retaining force. When tension is applied to the cable, the biasing member increases the second retaining force.

  • Patent number: 9281707
Abstract: Described is a system and method for charging a battery. The system includes a processor powered by a battery; and a controller determining a remaining battery charge of the battery. The controller sets a first charge current to recharge the battery when the remaining battery charge is insufficient to operate the processor. The controller wakes the processor when the battery has been recharged so that the remaining battery capacity is sufficient to operate the processor. The processor negotiates for a second charge current to recharge the battery. The controller sets the second charge current when the processor successfully negotiated.

  • Patent number: 9252850
Abstract: A method, a system, and a server provide context aware multiple-input-multiple-output MIMO antenna systems and methods. Specifically, the systems and methods provide, in a multiple MIMO antenna or node system, techniques of antenna/beam selection, calibration, and periodic refresh, based on environmental and mission context. The systems and methods can define a context vector as built by cooperative use of the nodes on the backhaul to direct antennas for the best user experience as well as mechanisms using the context vector in a 3D employment to point the antennas in a cooperative basis therebetween. The systems and methods utilize sensors in the nodes to provide tailored context sensing versus motion sensing, in conjunction with BER (Bit Error Rate) measurements on test signals to position an antenna beam from a selection of several “independent” antenna subsystems operating within a single node, as well as, that of its optically connected neighbor.

  • Patent number: 9213873
Abstract: Determining movement of a Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) tag first establishes a phase difference/frequency model comprising a set of phase-wrapped local rates-of-change and an intercept point. RFID tag readings are then made to measure phase differences between the interrogation signal and the tag response at different frequencies. A correlation is determined between the measured phase differences versus frequency and the phase-wrapped local phase rates-of-change of the phase difference/frequency model. If the correlation is better than or equal to a predetermined limit, the tag is stationary, or if the correlation is worse than the predetermined limit, the tag is moving.

  • Publication number: 20150347798
Abstract: A workstation processes a product by imaging an indicium associated with the product in a transaction, and images a sheet-like target associated with the transaction. A window is supported in a window plane in contact with the target during target imaging. An imaging assembly captures light from the indicia during product processing, and from the target during target imaging, over a plurality of fields of view extending along different directions through the window. Each field bounds an area in the window plane that is smaller than the entire target. At least one pair of the fields partially overlaps each other in the window plane. The fields overlap contiguous portions of the target during target imaging. The light from the contiguous portions is captured by the imaging assembly as a plurality of target images. A controller compiles the target images into a single output image indicative of the target.

  • Publication number: 20150339503
Abstract: Objects associated with targets to be read by image capture are detected without any additional hardware in an imaging module. Return light is captured over a field of view of the module. Images are processed, during an object detection mode, to determine their image brightness from the captured return light. Illumination is emitted from an illumination light assembly at a first power level to determine a first image brightness from a first processed image, and at a different, reduced, second power level to determine a second image brightness from a second processed image. An object is determined to be in the field of view when a difference between the first image brightness and the second image brightness equals or exceeds a detection threshold value.
