Patent number: 9765505Abstract: An air-gap device integrated within a faucet base of a faucet fixture for use with a dishwashing device is disposable on a counter surface and includes: a base forming flow channels adapted to provide a fluid-tight seal at the surface; a fixed block wall extending from the base, the fixed block wall separating a first pair of flow channels from a second pair of flow channels and providing a fluid-tight seal for the first pair of the flow channels; and a removable block cover selectively attachable to the fixed block wall to fluidicly couple the second pair of flow channels, the block cover further forming an air-gap channel in fluidic communication with ambient. Modular design permits removal of the faucet and valve portion to access the air-gap device for maintenance, without the need to disconnect any fluid supply or waste lines.Type: GrantFiled: November 18, 2016Date of Patent: September 19, 2017Assignee: Symmons Industries, Inc.Inventors: Kirk Mellits, Jeff Peltier, Hai Le, Steve Ferreira

Patent number: 6263899Abstract: A novel non-scald mixing valve is provided of the type that utilizes a pressure-balancing piston to sense a change in the set flow conditions and automatically open or closes orifice to compensate for the change, the valve being characterized by the use of ceramic valving elements to provide both the valve shut-off function and the temperature-ratioing function. The ceramic valving elements fulfill the requirement that the positive shut-off function must be accomplished up-stream of the sensing pressure-balancing piston in order to avoid the use of check valves in the hot and cold water supplies.Type: GrantFiled: March 3, 2000Date of Patent: July 24, 2001Assignee: Symmons Industries, Inc.Inventor: Jerrold Zindler

Patent number: 6119947Abstract: An improved tempered water mixing system comprises a thermostatically operated main mixing valve for blending cold and hot water supplies during normal system operation, a secondary temperature-limiting flow-control device in the form of a thermostatic valve (also known as a pressure-regulator), with the thermostatic valve and the pressure regulating valve being connected to function as fail-safe devices so as to provide an uninterrupted discharge outflow at a substantial flow rate in the event of a malfunction of the main mixing valve.Type: GrantFiled: January 5, 1999Date of Patent: September 19, 2000Assignee: Symmons industries, Inc.Inventors: John R. Couture, Colin J. MacDonald, Jr.

Patent number: 4917137Abstract: A mixing valve for two fluids under pressure at different temperatures. The mixing valve has a body with means defining a valve chamber, separate inlet ports for each of the fluids to be mixed, and an outlet port. A main mixing valve unit projects into the valve chamber. The mixing valve also has a means for causing axial movement of the main mixing valve unit within the main valve chamber while preventing rotation of the main valve unit relative to the valve chamber.Type: GrantFiled: September 7, 1988Date of Patent: April 17, 1990Assignee: Symmons Industries, Inc.Inventor: Paul C. Patent number: 4457452Abstract: An improved automatic shut-off valve that allows the temperature of discharged water to be adjusted by rotating the valve operating handle. The means for shutting off the discharge of water is simplified by attaching a valve closure member directly to a piston which is pushed downward manually to initiate flow and then forced upward by a spring to seat the valve closure member and stop the water flow. The piston moves axially inside a piston cylinder that has a hole in its bottom, and a pin connected to the piston sits in the hole. The clearance between the hole and pin determines the rate at which water can flow into the cylinder, thereby controlling the rate at which the piston is returned to its normally shut position by the spring.Type: GrantFiled: May 24, 1982Date of Patent: July 3, 1984Assignee: Symmons Industries, Inc.Inventor: Paul C.
