Abstract: An electronic device may have multiple users and multiple customized user interfaces for each user resulting in a large number of user customized UI dashboard configurations. However, defining these user customized UI dashboard configurations is performed by each user such that addition and/or replacement of software applications requires users to reconfigure customized UI dashboards. Similarly, organization generated dashboards must be configured on each user device. It would be beneficial for such user customized UI dashboard configurations to be updateable in response to information provided during new software installation, software upgrades, etc. or for UI dashboard configurations to be adjusted absent any such update/upgrade. It would also be beneficial for context rules to be adaptable based upon learned behavior or external adjustments just as it would be beneficial for the context rule engine to automatically identify new potential rules as a result of current and previous behavior.

Based on the access privileges of the user, multiple access options are determined to a content item or to a service available to the user. The multiple access options include access options for accessing the content item or the service from different sources. The access options are presented to a user and a selection of an access option is received from the user. Stored business rules for the source are accessed, which identify a consumption mode specified by the source for enabling users to consume content items or services provided by the source. The user is enabled to perceive the content item or receive the service in accordance with the consumption mode.

Abstract: A system retrieves media content from a first media content provider for access by a sharing user, and receives an indication that the sharing user desires to share the media content with a receiving user. The system determines an identity of the receiving user and shares the media content by sending an intermediate link that identifies the media content to a computer system of the receiving user. The system receives an indication that the receiving user has selected the intermediate link, and communicates an identity of the media content and the identity of the receiving user to an intermediate server. The system obtains, from the intermediate server, a first universal resource locator (URL) that was determined based on the identity of the media content and the identity of the receiving user. The system retrieves the media content from a second media content provider using the first URL.

It is therefore increasingly important for these electronic devices to dynamically adapt applications, information, user interface etc.

Abstract: An instant messaging system is disclosed that provides a means for presenting information to a user about current conversants and for managing the handling of multiple messages from different parties. A priority hierarchy is established and set by a user with respect to each conversant. Messages from high priority conversants are delivered and displayed prior to messages from lower priority conversants. In a business setting, messages may be routed to particular individuals or with a particular priority based on characteristics or attributes of the message sender.

Abstract: A server-side recycle bin system for retaining computer files and information is disclosed. The system comprises a local computer system, and a server including a server-side recycle bin. One or more persistent storage devices, providing the files and directories to be protected, are present either as part of the local computer system or as part of the server. The local computer system and the server may be connected via a wide area computer network, a local area network, the Internet, of any other method or combination of methods. A file manager application running on the local computer system interacts with a file serving application on the server such that there is generated a retained file in the server-side recycle bin.
