  • Patent number: 7189226
Abstract: A coaxial illuminated laser endoscopic probe and active numerical aperture control apparatus and method of use, succinctly known as an illumination and laser source, capable of selectively providing illumination light and laser treatment light through a single optical fiber. The apparatus and method is especially useful during ophthalmic surgery. The present art is capable of providing the aforesaid through an optical fiber of such small size that heretofore said fiber was only useable for laser treatment light only. The present art also, with its unique optical system, allows for two illumination light outputs from a single illumination source. The apparatus utilizes a phototoxicity risk card to calibrate the system to prior art or safe illumination levels since the unique optical system provides illumination light of greater intensity than the prior art.

  • Publication number: 20060184164
Abstract: An electrosurgical generator apparatus controls a variable output signal to electrodes. The generator apparatus operates in a cut mode, a coagulation mode or a stimulate mode. The generator apparatus comprises a DC power supply that provides regulated low voltage and high voltage outputs and a radio frequency (RF) waveform generator circuit that provides pulse duration modulation (PDM) of a carrier signal. The carrier signal directly affects the variable output signal to the electrodes. A control circuit controls a variable output signal to electrodes used in electrosurgical procedures. The control circuit comprises a DC power supply circuit that provides regulated low voltage and high voltage outputs and an RF waveform generator circuit that provides pulse duration modulation of a carrier signal. The carrier signal directly affects the variable output signal to the electrodes.

  • Patent number: 6966921
Abstract: A device for radial optic neurotomy comprising a radial optic neurotomy knife and its method of use. Comprising in a preferred embodiment, a uniquely formed asymmetrical “V” shaped tip having a first sharpened leg and a second dulled leg and a depth gauge. In a preferred embodiment said depth gauge comprises a laser mark which is substantially perpendicular with a central axis of a tip holding shaft. The device is specially designed for performing the radial optic neurotomy (RON) surgical procedure and thereby promoting relaxation of the scleral outlet.

  • Patent number: 6723110
Abstract: A high efficiency ultrasonic surgical aspiration tip apparatus and accompanying method for surgical use. The apparatus has one or more substantially “V” or “U” shaped cuts in a contacting. The apparatus and method of use provides a cutting action at the contacting end when the tip is ultrasonically excited. The apparatus and method of use further provides a substantially uniform ultrasonic and aspiration field due to the positioning and shape of the substantially “V” or “U” shaped cuts. The aforesaid further allows a surgeon to position the ultrasonic generator handpiece at any rotational angle for provision of the benefits cited.

  • Patent number: 6721051
Abstract: A non-intrusive method of characterizing particles through inverse analysis of experimental data based on measurements using elliptically polarized radiation is provided. A database of theoretical absorption and scattering data sets for particles is compiled. Optimum settings for an experimental test to gather an experimental absorption and scattering data set are determined and the experimental test is conducted. The experimental absorption and scattering data set is then compared to the theoretical absorption and scattering data sets of the database of theoretical absorption and scattering data sets in order to determine an absorption and scattering data set which differs the least from the experimental absorption and scattering data set in order to characterize the particles.

  • Publication number: 20040010247
Abstract: An ophthalmic surgery light transmitting apparatus has an optic fiber having a flexible length with a light source connector mounted on one end of the optic fiber and the opposite end of the optic fiber being adapted to be mounted to an ophthalmic surgery instrument to provide illumination for the instrument. The cross-sectional area of the optic fiber transitions as it extends from the end connected to the light source connector to the opposite end of the optic fiber. The optic fiber transitions from a larger cross-sectional area of the optic fiber at the light source connector to a smaller cross-sectional area of the optic fiber at the opposite end.

  • Patent number: 6575989
Abstract: A microsurgical instrument used in ophthalmic surgery to remove proliferative membranes during a surgical procedure treating proliferative vitreoretinal membrane disorders and other macular diseases where the microsurgical instrument has a instrument handle, a tip, and abrasive particles attached to a scraping edge projecting beyond the tip. The microsurgical instrument may be fitted with infusion, aspiration, or illumination sources, and these sources are directed to the surgical site in proximity to the scraping edge, the abrasive particles on the edge scrape membranes to remove tissue at the surgical site. In one embodiment, the microsurgical instrument may be configured with a retractable/extendable pick where the relative stiffness of the pick and the edge may be adjusted. In another embodiment the edge may also be angularly positionable as it is retracted/extended from the microsurgical instrument.

  • Patent number: 6511373
Abstract: An energy efficient air distribution system placed within the conditioned space of a building comprising a duct having an interior volume for conducting air. One of the exterior surfaces may have an ornamental design providing the impression the device is actually cornice molding. At least one recess is positioned along the exterior surface of the duct, such that it is obscured from view by a viewer standing within an occupancy zone of a room. An outlet is positioned within the recess for directing a flow of air from the duct interior volume through the exterior surface. The duct serves a function of conducting air throughout the room, and also has an aesthetically pleasing appearance. Junction boxes may be placed within the conditioned space for connecting the ducts. Junction boxes may further include an ornamental exterior for a pleasing aesthetic appearance.
