The cylindrical punch and piercing member are extendable from a housing of the implement by gripping laterally extending flanges or pins and pressing on an actuator. One or two coil springs may be provided to bias the punch and/or piercing member to a retracted position, and a retaining member may be provided to latch the punch in the extended position.

The cylindrical punch is extendable to a predetermined distance when pushing the actuator over a first section of its total range of movement to remove an end section of a cigar's wrapper or binder, after which the piercing member may be extended from the cylindrical punch by a further distance to form a passage of controllable depth upon pushing the actuator over a second section of its total range against the bias provided by the coil spring.
