    Abstract: A word prediction system determines probabilities of next words based upon an n-gram analysis of the input words as a user inputs text into a device. The predicted next words can be predicted based upon the last input word(s) and the predicted next words can be displayed on a predicted word portion of the device. Rather than inputting the letters of the next word, a user can easily input a predicted next word that matches the desired next word.

    Abstract: A three dimensional data input system includes a space sensor that can input commands and text based upon user gestures within a three dimensional space. The three dimensional space can include a virtual keyboard and the system identifies words input as a set of points input by a user on the virtual keyboard. The intended word is identified by determining an origin and points associated with letters on a log polar coordinate system. The log distances and angles of the points are then compared to log distances and angles for known words stored in a computer memory. The known word having the log distances and angles that most closely match the input points is identified as the intended word.

    Abstract: An electronic device includes a touch screen for inputting text and hardware buttons for performing functions. A user inputs a sequence of letters and then actuates the hardware button which causes the system to perform an auto-correction if the input text is not recognized as a word and a space after the word. The hardware button can have multiple actuation modes including a touch actuation and a depression actuation. Each actuation mode can perform different system functions.
