Publication number: 20140035563Abstract: Apparatus and method for detecting a position of an actuator piston driving a valve pin in an injection molding system. The apparatus includes an actuator housing having a body portion, surrounding an axial bore, of a substantially non-magnetic and/or magnetically permeable material, a piston, movable within the axial bore for driving a valve pin, the piston including a magnetic member generating a magnetic field such that axial movement of the piston in the bore modifies the magnetic field according to the position of the piston relative to a detection position, and a magnetic field detector attached to an exterior surface of the body portion at the detection position for detecting the magnetic field associated with the position of the piston and generating an output signal determined by the piston position.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 6, 2012Publication date: February 6, 2014Applicant: Synventive Molding SolutionsInventors: Zhuang Rui TAN, Lin YANG

Publication number: 20030155672Abstract: An injection molding apparatus and method are provided in which the rate of material flow during an injection cycle is controlled. According to one preferred embodiment, an injection molding apparatus is provided that includes a manifold, at least one injection nozzle coupled to the manifold, an actuator, and a valve pin adapted to reciprocate through the manifold and the injection nozzle. The valve pin has a first end coupled to the actuator, a second end that closes the gate in a forward position, and a control surface intermediate said first and second ends for adjusting the rate of material flow during an injection cycle. Retracting the valve pin tends to decrease the rate of material flow during the injection cycle and displacing the valve pin toward the gate tends to increase the rate of material flow during the injection cycle.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 11, 2002Publication date: August 21, 2003Applicant: Synventive Molding SolutionsInventors: David Kazmer, Mark D. Publication number: 20020190413Abstract: An injection molding apparatus is provided in which the rate of material flow during the injection cycle is controlled. According to one preferred embodiment, a method is provided for use in an injection molding apparatus including a hot runner assembly comprising a manifold and at least first and second injection nozzles, the hot runner assembly to direct material injected into said manifold through said at least first and second injection nozzles through a corresponding at least first and second gates to one or more mold cavities. The method includes the steps of injecting material into the manifold, controlling, in the hot runner away from the first gate, a first rate at which material is injected through the first gate, and controlling, in the hot runner away from the second gate, a second rate at which material is injected through the second gate, independently from the first rate.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 8, 2002Publication date: December 19, 2002Applicant: Synventive Molding SolutionsInventors: David Kazmer, Mark D.
