Abstract: This invention relates to the remote monitoring of the floating roofs of large storage tanks, including tanks used for storing liquid petroleum products or other chemicals. The invention is used to monitor the position and flexure of the roof and other conditions such as vibration; the presence of vapors or liquids from water, hydrocarbons, or other chemicals; the presence of snow; or the presence of intruders. The invention can be connected to a monitoring system using wired or wireless means and can be used for routine status monitoring or for notifying plant operators in the event of alarm conditions. The invention can be completely self-contained and is suitable for encapsulation and use in harsh environments.

Abstract: An apparatus for the wireless and remote monitoring of covered floating storage tanks monitors roof position, flexure, fires and the presence of vapors or liquids from water, hydrocarbons or other chemicals. The apparatus relies upon on one or more encapsulated intelligent sensor units and communication units. The sensors are deployed on the floating roof of a storage tank and the communication units are deployed near the top wall of the floating roof storage tank or on the fixed roof of the tank.

Abstract: A visual monitoring system for covered storage tanks, comprising in combination a storage tank, an Imaging Unit and a Communication Unit. The storage tank has a peripheral wall, a fixed ceiling and a floating roof that travels up and down the peripheral wall. The Imaging Unit is positioned within the covered storage tank and includes a Camera, a Microcontroller, a Power Source and a Wireless Communication Interface. The Camera is mounted on one of the ceiling or the wall adjacent to the ceiling and is focused upon the floating roof. The Communication Unit receives wireless communication signals from the Imaging Unit providing imaging data regarding the floating roof.
Abstract: An fire monitoring apparatus for large storage tanks of combustible fluids permits wireless communication between a Linear Heat Detector system and a Fire Control system. The system comprises a Communication Unit and a Remote Unit. The Communication Unit relays status and control signals between the Fire Control system and the Remote Unit. The communication between the Communication Unit and the Remote Unit is wireless. The Remote Unit is self-powered using solar cells, batteries, or a combination thereof.
