  • Patent number: 4614528
Abstract: The present disclosure describes a dry air breather assembly adapted to be readily mountable over the breather ports of devices which are intolerant of intake air having high relative humidities in excess of a predetermined level. Such devices include the Winchester Hard Disk Unit in which the deposition of excess moisture on the read/write heads and magnetic disk media is particularly detrimental. The present assembly includes a unique elongated, low-profile enclosure for the efficient and effective use of a desiccant having a high moisture removal capability at relative humidities above the predetermined level, and low moisture removal capability, below the level.

  • Patent number: 4584719
Abstract: Workstations may advantageously be interconnected in a cluster arrangement wherein multiple "slave" stations utilize the database which exists in a "master" unit. The cluster interface has been implemented as a wired system but the latter involves significant limitations as to distance between units, electrical noise restricting data transmission rates and the protection of sensitive data from compromise. The fiber optic interface module of the present invention eliminates the foregoing limitations by translating the electrical signals of the wired system into optical signals for transmission and restoring them to electrical signals at a receiving unit.

  • Patent number: 4471459
Abstract: Digital data processing means employing a method for separating acceptable spellings of words from nonacceptable spellings wherein each word comprises characters assigned positions. The character positions in each word are assigned increasing values from one end of the word to the other, positions of the same number of characters from the same end of each word being assigned the same value. Two words to be compared are called a query word and a candidate word. The method includes the following steps. A representation of a character in a given position of the query word is compared with representations of characters in the next lower position, the same position, and the next higher position in the candidate word and a compare type indication is formed representing a match or a mismatch between each query word character and the candidate word characters under comparison.

  • Patent number: 4382277
Abstract: Method and apparatus are disclosed for determining a particular criterion value and an associated positional value for the degree of match between the juxtaposition of a plurality of events of a query and a plurality of corresponding events of a stored data base entry. Plural processors are utilized. Each processor includes a plurality of data stores and a temporary store for each data store. Each data store stores a group of data values. The data values are priorly formed and represent the number of event positions between the occurrence of events in the query and the occurrence of the corresponding events in the stored data base. The plural processors, working together using the plural data stores and the temporary stores, form determined data values and sum-of-distance values which are then used for deriving a criterion value and a positional value corresponding to the degree of match between the query and the data base.

  • Patent number: 4177460
Abstract: An alarm safety apparatus for use by operators of motor vehicles, transportation equipment, manufacturing equipment and the like for signaling in response to a specific operator movement or position is provided having a multi-directional movement limit alarm preferably including a soft deformable support which may contain a plurality of electric contact switches, at least one each thereof, oriented along each direction of movement of interest; and wherein the plurality of electric contact switches may be electrically connected to signal and power supply components.

  • Patent number: 4090122
Abstract: A high capacity storage battery is mounted in a vehicle, and is selectively charged by the alternator thereof to afford a power source for remote utilization devices. Voltages of the standard automobile battery and the high capacity battery are monitored, and are charged by the alternator in accordance with a fixed priority. When the automobile battery is less than fully charged, it is charged by the alternator irrespective of the voltage at the high capacity battery. When the automobile battery is full, the high capacity storage battery is charged by the alternator until it is fully charged. Thereafter, the alternator is decoupled from both such batteries.
