  • Patent number: 10895088
Abstract: A method for creating a tapered spiral welded conical structure where the overall shape of the cone is first graphically slit axially and unwrapped, and then a series of construction arcs and lines are created to form the edge lines of a strip that can then be wrapped (rolled) to form a tapered conical structure. The edges of the spirally wound strip can be welded together, and a very large conical structure can thus be achieved. Various construction options are presented from a constant width strip to strip made from straight segments. Equations are given for the formation of the strips to enable those skilled in the art of spiral welded tubing to practice the invention.

  • Patent number: 10895533
Abstract: Naphthalene, benzene, toluene, xylene, and other volatile organic compounds VOCs have been identified as serious health hazards. Embodiments of the invention are directed to methods and apparatus for near-real-time in-situ detection and accumulated dose measurement of exposure to naphthalene vapor and other hazardous gaseous VOCs. The methods and apparatus employ excitation of fluorophors native or endogenous to compounds of interest using light sources emitting in the ultraviolet below 300 nm and measurement of native fluorescence emissions in distinct wavebands above the excitation wavelength. The apparatus of some embodiments are cell-phone-sized sensor/dosimeter “badges” to be worn by personnel potentially exposed to hazardous VOCs. The badge sensor of some embodiments provides both real time detection and data logging of exposure to naphthalene or other VOCs of interest from which both instantaneous and accumulated dose can be determined.

  • Patent number: 10896069
Abstract: A technique for dynamically provisioning virtual machines for running a cloud-based software application includes querying a pool manager of a multi-tiered pool of virtual machines to identify a set of classes of virtual machines, which meet a specified size criterion, and a respective TVC (time-variant characteristic) for each class. If an identified one of the set of classes has a smaller TVC than a TVC of one of the virtual machines currently running the application, the technique proceeds to swap the current virtual machine for a virtual machine having the identified class.

  • Patent number: 10895604
Abstract: Systems and methods to provide a low voltage interface coupleable between an energy storage device or a DC power source (e.g., fuel cell stack, battery) and one or more AC signal diagnostic systems. The low voltage interface reduces a voltage of the DC power source and supplies the reduced voltage to the one or more AC signal diagnostic systems without affecting the results of the measurements obtained by the one or more AC signal diagnostic systems. Such functionality provides a safer method for performing advanced analysis (e.g., EIS, frequency analysis) while utilizing lower cost and/or smaller components.

  • Patent number: 10896404
Abstract: Systems and methods for service deployment are disclosed herein. Certain implementations may include a memory encoded with computer executable instructions that when executed cause a processing unit to operate a service deployment engine and use consistent APIs both (a) internally via a package API when consuming deployment packages in order to expose them, and (b) externally via a service API when exposing available packages and services to the outside world or enterprise server. By doing so, calling applications can depend on the consistency of the service API engine while the enterprise server itself can reliably consume and interact with a dynamic set of packages organized in a consistent and predictable way. The service deployment engine may be configured to act as a dynamic library loader to interrogate, deploy, start/stop, and/or uninstall packages and services in real time. The packages and services may all implement the same package API.

  • Patent number: 10896104
Abstract: An illustrative “VM heartbeat monitoring network” of heartbeat monitor nodes monitors target VMs in a data storage management system. Accordingly, target VMs are distributed and re-distributed among illustrative worker monitor nodes according to preferences in an illustrative VM distribution logic. Worker heartbeat monitor nodes use an illustrative ping monitoring logic to transmit special-purpose heartbeat packets to respective target VMs and to track ping responses. If a target VM is ultimately confirmed failed by its worker monitor node, an illustrative master monitor node triggers an enhanced storage manager to initiate failover for the failed VM. The enhanced storage manager communicates with the heartbeat monitor nodes and also manages VM failovers and other storage management operations in the system. Special features for cloud-to-cloud failover scenarios enable a VM in a first region of a public cloud to fail over to a second region.

  • Publication number: 20210014328
Abstract: A computer implemented method for determining the identity of an Over-the Top (OTT) application or service being accessed over the Internet from a HTTP, HTTPS or QUIC connection request received in a network monitoring device. Determine if one or more entries are present in the received connection request have an IP address that matches a known server IP address. A determination is then made as to whether if the received connection request is one of a HTTP, HTTPS or QUIC connection request, and if this cannot be determined than determine if a subject field in the received connection request is available. And determine if a candidate domain name is available from IP cache created from one or more of the above steps if a subject field is not available in the received connection request.

  • Publication number: 20210009062
Abstract: A crash sensor system for a vehicle capable of operating in an autonomous mode includes an electronic control unit (ECU) having a processor circuit. The ECU triggers an occupant restraint system of the vehicle in the event of a severe impact event with the vehicle. Satellite sensors are electrically connected to the ECU and are mounted at the front end, the rear end, the right side and the left side of the vehicle near or on an outer surface thereof to detect low severity impact event with the vehicle that does not cause activation of the occupant restraint system. The processor circuit executes an algorithm to confirm, via data from the plurality of satellite sensors, whether the low severity impact event with the vehicle occurred and if so, the ECU triggers a brake controller and a steering controller to cause the vehicle, while in the autonomous mode, to pull over and stop.

  • Publication number: 20210011049
Abstract: A vibration analyzer for use in determining a rotational speed. The vibration analyzer includes an input for sensing vibration data, a memory for storing the vibrational data, and a processor. The processor produces a spectral plot of the vibrational data, locates peaks in the spectral plot, receives an input rotational speed, and scans the spectral plot in predetermined rotational speed increments to provide a candidate rotational speeds. For each candidate rotational speed, a number of associated harmonics is identified, closest peaks in the spectral plot to the candidate rotational speed and its harmonics are located, gaps between the closest peaks and the candidate rotational speed and its harmonics are measured and summed, and a sum of the gaps is recorded. The candidate rotational speed that is associated with a minimum sum is selected as the nominal rotational speed.
