  • Patent number: 6789429
Abstract: A capacitive pressure sensor for measuring a pressure applied to an elastic member includes a capacitive plate disposed adjacent to the elastic member so as to define a gap between a planar conductive surface of the elastic member and a corresponding planar surface of the capacitive plate. The gap, capacitive plate and elastic member together define a capacitor having a characteristic capacitance. The sensor further includes an elongated electrical conductor characterized by an associated inductance value. The conductor is fixedly attached to and electrically coupled with the capacitive plate. The gap between the capacitive plate and the elastic member varies as a predetermined function of the pressure applied to the elastic member so as to vary the characteristic capacitance. The capacitor and the electrical conductor together form an electrical resonator having a characteristic resonant frequency. Varying the capacitance of this tank circuit varies the resonant frequency of the tank circuit.

  • Patent number: 6792585
Abstract: The invention discloses a relative structure placement of datapath of cell instances in a column structure, a row structure, or an array structure. To encourage placement of a desirable structure, pseudo cells, pseudo pins, and pseudo nets are selected to be placed at certain locations with respect to real cell instances. The end result produces a cluster of real cell instances that form a desirable structure while minimizing the length of nets. The invention further discloses a non-uniform partitioning of a density map for calculating a force update vector. The partitioning is taken over a region A to compute Riemann sum approximations of a function F over the region A. A force update vector is calculated for a given cell instance within the region A where neighboring cell instances have an exponentially larger grid size as cell instances extend further away from the given cell instance.

  • Patent number: 6790221
Abstract: Methods for making a loaded catheter assembly for delivering a self-expanding stent where the self-expanding stent is carried in a compressed state and the compressed stent has an inside diameter smaller than the outside diameter of the catheter distal tip. The methods can utilize catheter sub-assemblies lacking already attached tips or having partially formed distal tips. A stent can be proximally and co-axially slid over the distal end of the catheter shaft and constrained by a retractable sheath disposed co-axially about the compressed stent. The catheter distal tip can be added or more fully formed after the loading of the stent. Some catheters include a preformed distal conical tip held in position by a heat-shrink film. Other catheters have an elastomeric distal tip waist for slipping over and engaging an outward projection on the catheter shaft distal region. Some catheters are adapted to engage catheter shaft distal threaded regions.

  • Patent number: 6791991
Abstract: A terminal receives one or more input frames comprising one or more logical channels and may generate one or more output frames including the data received in the logical channels. Each logical channel is dispersed throughout the input frame in one or more timeslots, and each logical channel has an associated buffer. The data of each logical channel received from the timeslot(s) of the input frame(s) is stored in the corresponding buffer. The terminal uses channel sequencing for round-robin scheduling to transfer the data of the received logical channels, if present, in each buffer to one or more output frames. Channel sequencing may apply round-robin scheduling of service of buffers in ascending or descending order of non-empty buffers, accounting for newly filled buffers. Channel sequencing generates a binary word, termed a channels service request (CSR) word, with each bit of the CSR word corresponding to a buffer and indicating whether the buffer requests service.

  • Patent number: 6791995
Abstract: A multichannel, mixed mode cable modem termination system receiver capable of receiving multiple channels of digital data transmitted on one or more hybrid fiber coaxial cable systems, each the channels being either single mode or mixed-mode. Mixed mode channels are time division multiplexed and have overlapping bandwidth and each sub-channel of a mixed mode channel can have a different center frequency, symbol rate and/or multiplexing type. The receiver is comprised of a plurality of analog front end circuits coupled to the various HFC systems, each selective coupled to any one of a plurality of digital front end receivers. Control circuitry controls these circuits to receive multiple mixed-mode or single mode channels, simultaneously if necessary. An arbiter decides which bursts get processed first in a back end shared demodulator which recovers the data from each burst.

  • Patent number: 6791776
Abstract: In order to generate a sampling clock having a higher accuracy, a synchronous signal generating circuit is provided with a phase error detector, detecting a phase error of a read out signal digitized on the basis of FDTS algorithm, and a VCO, controlling an oscillation frequency on the basis of a phase error detected by the phase error detector, to generate a synchronous signal by the VCO. On the basis of the synchronous signal generated by the synchronous signal generating circuit, an ADC digitizes the read out signal. The digitized read out signal is then converted to binary data by a detection circuit.

  • Patent number: 6790757
Abstract: The present invention uses wire bonding technology to bond interconnect materials that oxidize easily by using a wire with stable oxidation qualities. A passivation layer is formed on the semiconductor substrate to encapsulate the bonding pad made from the interconnect material such that the wire bonds with the passivation layer itself, not with the interconnect material. The passivation layer is selected to be a material that is metallurgically stable when bonded to the interconnect material. Since the wire is stable compared with the interconnect material, i.e., it does not readily corrode, a reliable mechanical and electrical connection is provided between the semiconductor device (interconnect material) and the wire, with the passivation layer disposed therebetween.

  • Patent number: 6789818
Abstract: An algorithm for evaluating information from sensors interacting with strips that are extended during activation of the airbag determines whether the airbag has contacted an out-of-position occupant. In one embodiment, each strip includes an alternating pattern that generates a frequency in a sensor through which the strip passes during deployment. The frequency generated is based upon the speed with which the strip passes by the sensor and, in turn, the speed of deployment of the airbag. A controller evaluates the frequency and the changes in frequency from the sensor during deployment. Depending upon the specific configuration of the system and the specific vehicle, a decrease in the speed of deployment of the airbag may be indicated by a decrease in the frequency of the signal. A decrease in speed of deployment may indicate that the airbag is in contact with an occupant.

  • Patent number: 6792457
Abstract: A method and apparatus for providing computer network access points the capability for multiple-level accounting. A gateway device located at the access point is capable of generating Internet protocol accounting start and stop requests based on various events that need to be accounted for when a user accesses a network. These events include the user account logon, the service establishments and the Point to Point protocol (PPP) connections between the gateway device and public and private domains within the network. The counter is capable of tracking the duration of sessions and connections and the byte-count associated with the specified session or connection. The gateway device communicates with an accounting server which stores the accounting requests and matches start requests with subsequent stop requests.

  • Patent number: 6790753
Abstract: A Schottky diode is fabricated by a sequence of fabrication by a sequence of fabrication steps. An active region of a semiconductor substrate is defined in which a Schottky diode is fabricated. At least first and second layers of insulating material are applied over the active area. A first layer of insulating material, having a first etching rate, is applied over the active area. A second layer of insulating material having a second, greater, etch rate is applied over the first layer of insulating material to a thickness that is about twice the thickness of the first layer of insulating material. The insulating material is patterned and a window is etched through the layers of insulating material to the semiconductor substrate. Metal is applied and unwanted metal is etched away leaving metal in the window forming a Schottky contact therein. One or more barrier layers may be employed.
