  • Patent number: 9945712
Abstract: A system and method for detecting phase separation in storage tanks is provided. At least one float has a density calibrated to detect a density differential among surrounding fluids. The float is buoyant on a relatively more dense lower layer of fluid such as phase separated fuel or pure water, while remaining submerged in a relatively less dense upper layer of fluid such as a gasoline/ethanol blend. A detection device sends a signal when the float rises or falls above or below a preset acceptable level.

  • Patent number: 9948503
Abstract: Each of a first group of gateway nodes of a communications network operates as a primary gateway identified by a respective unique gateway identification number (GWID), and each of a second group of gateway nodes operates as a backup gateway. Each gateway node has an assigned backup priority level with respect to each GWID. The gateway nodes are interconnected via a common local network. In the event that a primary gateway node becomes non-operational, the backup gateway that is assigned the highest priority level with respect to the GWID of the non-operational primary gateway assumes operation as the primary gateway identified by that GWID. Upon restoration of the non-operational gateway node, the gateway node operates as a backup gateway in place of the gateway node that assumed its operation as the primary gateway. A gateway node operates as a primary gateway for only one respective GWID at a time.

  • Patent number: 9947153
Abstract: A Bluetooth enabled Smartphone may be used for both access control and start authorization in a secure and safe way, and embodiments are backward-compatible with conventional vehicle access and start systems. A smart phone acts as an intermediary authorization device to a code generator which effectively resembles a car key that is installed in a vehicle. A Bluetooth transceiver and the code generator—and, optionally, for the retrofit solution, an RF/LF transceiver—are added to the vehicle. The Bluetooth transceiver communicates with the smart phone. The code generator communicates with electronic control units in the vehicle that control access, immobilization, and engine start. The communication may happen via a wired connection or, in the case of the retrofit solution, via an RF/LF transceiver that mimics an additional car key programmed to the vehicle.

  • Patent number: 9943751
Abstract: An automatic playing card shuffler incorporating means for detecting marked cards. One or more light spectrum emitters or variable light spectrum illuminators transmit light at frequencies/wavelengths which is reflected off card backs through one or more spectrum filters causing invisible markings to become visible. A camera may capture images of the now visible markings. A camera and software collaborate to capture images and analyze the same for markings on the card backs such as smudges, nicks and scuffs and edge demarcations. The automatic playing card shufflers are configured to not only detect marked cards but to detect patterns relative to the card markings. The automatic card shufflers are communicatively linked with a casino management system and/or security system such that casino personnel may be alerted in real time to the discovery of marked cards.

  • Patent number: 9944021
Abstract: Methods, processes, systems, devices and apparatus are provided for additive manufacture resulting in the 3D printing of novel ceramic composites. Additive manufacture or 3D printing of bulk ceramic and ceramic composite components occurs at considerably lower temperatures and shorter manufacturing intervals than the current state of the art. The methods, processes, systems, devices and apparatus and selection of precursor resins produce ceramic and ceramic composite material systems which have not been produced before by 3D printing.

  • Patent number: 9946809
Abstract: The present invention addresses deficiencies of the art with respect to collaborative computer networks consisting of mixed data, control functions, analysis functions, and sensors in complex systems of systems. The method involves a database framework for representing complex heterogeneous characteristics of processes, systems, and systems of systems that feature many to many interrelationships. The homoiconic graph framework takes the form of an executable graph database, which is often faster for associative data sets, and maps more directly to object-oriented computer applications for large-scale operations. The invention provides a method to execute the graph database, in that it comprises nodes that are both data fragments and executable components. It is characterized as a homoiconic or executable graph framework to distinguish this unique feature from the concept of a graph database, which generally is a repository of connected data only.

  • Patent number: 9947246
Abstract: A display sign mountable on a support surface where at least some of the information displayed thereon needs to be changed periodically. The sign includes a housing with one or more pockets defined therein, where an interior of each pocket is visible through an associated window on the housing. A set of display cards is receivable in each pocket in the housing. Each display card has different text or graphics thereon. Individual display cards may be selectively withdrawn from the set of display cards by grasping a tab on that particular display card and pulling the display card out of the pocket. The removed display card may be inserted in front of an outermost display card that was previously visible through the associated window. A single display card that is free of tabs may be inserted into one of the pockets and remain substantially permanently visible through the associated window.

  • Patent number: 9941952
Abstract: A satellite terminal and a machine-implemented method are provided for encoding a burst header of a burst for transmission on an inroute. One component of a group of satellite terminal components consisting of an ASIC, a FPGA, and a DSP, generates a burst header having five information bits encoded therein. The five information bits may be encoded using a Reed-Muller code, a (32, 5) block code or a convolutional code having a code rate of either 1/5 or 1/10. The five information bits may represent one or more of a modulation type for a payload of the burst, a code rate for encoding the payload, a code type, and a spreading factor for spreading the payload during transmission. A satellite gateway and a machine-implemented method are also provided for decoding a burst header of a burst received on an inroute as described above.

  • Patent number: 9942624
Abstract: An on-premises restaurant communication system for communicating a particular customer's table number to a food server at a central service station. Radio Frequency Identifier (RFID) tags are mounted on the underside of the restaurant's tables. The customer is provided with a pager having a pager ID associated with the customer's food order. The pager is modified to include an RFID reader and an RF transmitter. When the customer places the pager on a selected table, the RFID reader reads an RFID number from the table's RFID tag. The RF transmitter transmits the pager ID and RFID number to the central station, which uses this information to associate the food order with the table number. The table number is provided to the food server for delivery of the food order to the proper table.

  • Patent number: 9937923
Abstract: A controller is adapted to receive signals indicative of an image including a representation of a posted speed limit for a current section of a road on which an associated vehicle is traveling. The controller evaluates the image to identify the posted speed limit and dynamically determines if the posted speed limit is above a predetermined threshold speed limit. Only if the posted speed limit is above the predetermined threshold speed limit, the controller sets the identified posted speed limit as a warning threshold. If a speed of the associated vehicle is more than a predetermined range over the warning threshold, the controller transmits a warning signal to a notifier for notifying an operator of the associated vehicle and controls a speed of the vehicle based on the posted speed limit.
