Abstract: Systems, devices, and methods for alerting pedestrians as to the presence of a vehicle are provided. The system for providing alert tones may include a personal communication device, such as a mobile terminal, a vehicle communication system, and an output device. A driver of a vehicle equipped with a vehicle communication system may select an alert tone to download to his vehicle directly using the vehicle communication system or indirectly via a communications link between the personal communication device and the vehicle communication system. Upon approaching a pedestrian, the driver may actuate the vehicle communication system to sound the alert tone through the output device by interacting with an input device, such as a button or a switch. Actuation may also be caused by a voice command or automatically, through the detection of an object within a certain distance of the vehicle via one or more sensors.

Aspects of the preferred embodiment include providing a user control via a browser that allows for controlling a pacing of presentation of published information in the browser; receiving a pace setting from the user control; associating the pace setting with a subscription; and queuing published information corresponding to the subscription for presentation in the browser based on the pace setting.
Abstract: An implantable medication delivery apparatus including a flow path coupling a medication reservoir to a device outlet port where the flow path includes a regulator means for limiting the magnitude of pressure transferred downstream from the medication reservoir. The regulator means is configured to respond to the reservoir pressure exceeding a certain threshold for closing a valve located downstream from the reservoir. The valve closure functions to isolate the device outlet port from further reservoir pressure increases which otherwise could induce unintended medication flow from the device outlet port.
Abstract: The present invention is directed to a manual bulk liquid pump control and distribution system that utilizes a single-handle manual operation for direction of flow and speed, along with providing a neutral position for standby. The system can be operated at a rate of 0 to 250 gallons per minute and be reversed with a single motion of the operating handle. The pump operates in one direction at a fixed RPM, resulting in longer pump life and safer operation. For added safety, the system utilizes the pump's relief valve for both discharge and suction operation. It has the ability of sucking the liquid out of the lines and hoses after each transfer operation. This system has an aluminum flow-reversing valve or two-way valve at the center of the design. This valve allows the flow of the product to be precisely controlled in either direction, along with the flow rate and pressure. This gives the operator the ability to control the product regardless of viscosity or volume.
Abstract: A control system for a laundry washing machine with a horizontal wash drum detects load imbalance in the drum and selects a proper rotation speed for the drum in a water extraction operation. A drive controller for the motor turning the drum detects a phase angle variation in the drive voltage and drive current applied to the motor as an indication of the load imbalance in the drum, and determines whether the detected load imbalance falls in one of a plurality of pre-defined load-imbalance zones. The drive controller then provides a signal indicating the detected imbalance zone to a machine controller of the washing machine. The machine controller selects a proper rotation speed for the extraction operation based on the detected imbalance zone, or alternatively initiates a load-redistribution operation to reduce the load imbalance.
Abstract: The motion of an Anthropomorphic Test Device (ATD) member is measured. For example, the motion of ribs and other components of an ATD or Crash-Test Dummy are tracked during crash testing and dummy calibration using light angle detectors and triangulation techniques.
Abstract: A fluid coupling assembly is disclosed comprising a connector body defining a bore extending axially forward from an entrance opening, a tubular male member with an upset, a seal member, and a retainer. The retainer is received within the bore and includes locking members to releaseably retain the tube. The retainer includes a forward extension to support the seal against fluid pressure. The retainer and seal are configured to be applied to the male member before insertion of the male member into the bore of the connector body. Two of the locking members include ramps extending radially outwardly to contact the body portion defining the entrance opening sequentially prior to contact by the locking arms of the other locking members. A removable protective cap attaches the retainer and seal onto a tube end and covers these components prior to assembly. The retainer, seal member and protective cap cannot be assembled onto the tube end unless the seal is present within the protective cap.
Abstract: The present application relates to a system and method for tracking individual pieces within a printing or mailing job, as well as tracking completed trays, skids, or containers of printed documents.
Abstract: A grounding arrangement for an in-tank fuel system includes a fuel level sensor assembly of a fuel module comprising a conductive card body and a resister card supported on the conductive card body. The resister card includes a conductive trace in conductive contact with the conductive card body. The card body is conductively connected to a conductive fuel module component. The trace is adapted to be connected to the ground plane of a vehicle. Other traces on the resister card are in the electrical circuit of the fuel level sensor assembly. The fuel module further includes a conductive blade having a knife edge and in conductive contact with a conductive fuel module component. The knife edge cuts through the insulation of an insulated conductor to allow the knife edge to be in contact with the conductive element of the conductor.
Abstract: The present invention describes an alternative approach to increase GABA production in prokaryotes or eukaryotes, namely by the insertion of the putrescine catabolic pathway in organisms where the pathway does not exist or has not clearly been identified. The invention describes methods for the use of polynucleotides that encode functional putrescine aminotransferase (PAT) and gamma-aminobutyricaldehyde dehydrogenase (GABAlde DeHase) polypeptides in plants to increase GABA production. The preferred embodiment of the invention is in plants but other organisms may be used. Changes in GABA availability will improve growth and increase tolerance to biotic and abiotic stress.
Abstract: A soft shell, flexible storage tank is provided, including corners of an improved configuration adapted to resist leaks. The walls of the tank and the corners are relatively more rounded and larger in radius than those of conventional flexible tanks. The walls and the improved corners act together to resist leaks. The rounded corners tend to reduce the effective pressure in the tank walls by loading the seams predominantly in shearing stress when the tank is filled with a liquid. The rounded corners are developed as panels, which are thermally bonded to produce secure and reliable liquid-tight seams. Each of the panels is bonded by lapped seams to others of the panels. Each of the rounded corners includes a generally triangular corner that is bonded to at least three other panels. In effect, the flexible storage tank functions as a pressure vessel, which tends to resist leakage.
Abstract: Using a helium cryostat, the temperature for a substrate wafer(s) is reduced to 2.2 Kelvin over a period of twenty-four hours. Next, a soak segment will hold the temperature of the substrate wafer at 2.2 Kelvin for a period of ninety-six hours. At these low temperatures, alloys such as GaAs, InP, and GaP will form dipole molecular moments, which will re-align along lines of internal magnetic force as molecular bonds condense. Next the substrate wafer's temperature is ramped up to room temperature over a period of twenty-four hours. Next, the temperature of the substrate wafer is ramped up to assure that the temperature gradients made to occur within the wafer are kept low. Next, the substrate wafer undergoes a temper hold segment, which assures that the entire substrate wafer has had the benefit of the tempering temperature.
Abstract: An optical system or assembly is formed of a plurality of optical sources (10, 12, 14) and components of different laser-based equipment systems. The sources and/or components may be combined and/or eliminated to reduce complexity, cost and/or overall weight of the system by consolidating multiple laser sources into a reduced number of sources, and by multiplexing (19) different wavelength signals over common carriers. A laser engagement system (12, 14) and an infrared aim light (10) (or infrared illuminator) are powered by a single laser source which is adopted for use with conventional equipment by lengthening the duration of the coded pulses emitted by the transmitter. The transmitter may be triggered in response to the heat and/or pressure generated by the blank upon firing. A visible bore light may be eliminated by connecting infrared and/or visible aim light (10) directly to a rifle barrel.
Abstract: A subsurface drainage assembly for directing fluid drainage from a surface is disclosed. The subsurface drainage assembly includes a plurality of drain structure panels linked together in a manner that permits movement of one drain structure panel relative to the adjacent drain structure panel. The drain structure panels have a laterally extensive backing grid and a plurality of spaced apart tubular support members projecting therefrom. The tubular support members have at least one fluid flow opening formed through a sidewall so as to intersect a second end of the tubular support members at two rounded corners. The tubular support members are tapered so that the tubular support members are nestable with the tubular support members of an identical drain structure panel when the drain structure panels are stacked.
