Publication number: 20080225370Abstract: This continuous phase sheet deformable mirror leverages advances in polymer manufacturing to create a low-cost alternative to the existing microelectromechanical system (MEMS) and bulk (piezoelectric and electrostrictive) deformable mirror technology. These novel mirrors can be used for any form of phase control including but not limited to piston control, beam steering, and higher order adaptive optics. The preferred mirror surface is a pellicle, but any thin polymer high optical quality surface will suffice. The thin polymer phase sheet can be combined with any actuator structure, like those produced by MEMS, to create a higher quality hybrid deformable mirror.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 16, 2007Publication date: September 18, 2008Applicant: Active Optical Systems, LLCInventor: Justin Dennis Mansell

Publication number: 20080216679Abstract: An embossing seal includes a support frame having an opening at a first end thereof and a die assembly disposed in the opening of the support frame. The embossing seal includes a handle pivotally connected to the frame for moving between an extended position and a compressed position for closing the die assembly, a first link having a trailing end pivotally connected to the frame and a leading end coupled with the die assembly, and a second link having a first end pivotally connected with the handle and a second end pivotally connected with the first link. In operation, when the handle is moved from the extended position to the compressed position, the first and second links close the die. The arrangement of the first and second links provides increased leverage on the die assembly during the later stages of the compression stroke of the handle.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 9, 2007Publication date: September 11, 2008Applicant: M&R Marking Systems, LLCInventors: Anthony D. Publication number: 20080221705Abstract: A prosthetic sleeve and socket system, the sleeve including a flap or skirt concentrically arranged about the sleeve and configured to form a sealed chamber between the sleeve and socket when the sleeve is inserted into the socket. An air permeable material is interposed between the skirt and the sleeve to maintain a continuous interconnected air layer therebetween. An expulsion valve is provided to allow air contained within the sealed chamber to be forced out of the chamber ahead of the sleeve when it is inserted into the socket. A powered vacuum pump is also provided for producing and maintaining a partial vacuum in the sealed chamber for keeping the socket and sleeve joined. The system allows for a substantial reduction in size of known sockets and permits, in some instances, the disposal of bulky suspension straps currently in use to force the socket against a residual limb.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 13, 2007Publication date: September 11, 2008Applicant: Scussel SBJ Systems, LLCInventor: Rick C.
