  • Patent number: 6284062
Abstract: A member used in contact with a hot dip galvanizing bath, such as a sinker roll, a support roll or a bearing, is produced by nitriding stainless steel to form a nitride layer and a nitrogen-diffused layer on the surface thereof. The member used in contact with a hot dip galvanizing bath is formed on its surface with the nitride layer by nitriding it in a salt bath containing a cyanide, a cyanate, a carbonate and the like or by heat-treating it in an atmosphere containing ammonium or nitrogen.

  • Patent number: 5677008
Abstract: In a continuous coating method, a coating material with insufficient fluidity can be uniformly coated on a substrate. A pick-up roller is disposed between a coating roller and a metering roller and a doctor bar is located above the pick-up roller. The coating roller is located near the substrate. The pick-up roller is rotated in a direction to pick-up the coating material through a gap between the pick-up roller and the metering roller. The metering roller is rotated in the same direction as the pick-up roller at a nip of these rollers, and the coating roller is rotated in a reverse direction with respect to the pick-up roller at a nip of these rollers. The substrate travels in a reverse direction with respect to the coating roller at a nip thereof.

  • Patent number: 5670261
Abstract: Disclosed is a composite metal sheet to be produced by chemically treating the surface of a metal substrate, coating and drying an organic resin-based composition thereon to form a undercoat layer, then coating thereon a two-layered resin interlayer composed of an adhesive layer of a modified polyolefin resin and a polyolefin resin layer at a thickness of from 50 to 300 .mu.m, then modifying the surface of said polyolefin resin layer by flame treatment or corona discharging treatment thereby forming functional groups in an amount of from 0.05 to 0.30 in terms of O/C representing the ratio of the amount of oxygens in the functional groups to the amount of carbons on the surface, and finally coating and drying an urethane-curing polyester resin paint or an urethane-curing fluorine resin paint at a thickness of from 8 to 35 .mu.m to form a top coat layer. The composite metal sheet has excellent corrosion resistance, weather resistance and formability.

  • Patent number: 5648126
Abstract: A surface-treated metal sheet of high durability having excellent corrosion resistance, weatherability and formability, and intended mainly for use as a material for outdoor construction. It has a chemically conversion treated surface, and carries thereon an undercoat layer of an organic resin paint containing a rust-inhibitive pigment, an intermediate coating layer consisting of an adhesive layer of a modified polyolefin resin and an intermediate layer of a polyolefin resin, and formed by the simultaneous T-die extrusion of those resins, and a topcoat layer of an acrylic, urethane or polyester resin paint, or a fluororesin paint. A process for manufacturing it is also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 5579362
Abstract: An apparatus for and a method of measuring at least one painted layer formed on a sample to be analyzed, which sample may be, for example, a galvanized steel including a substrate having the painted layer formed thereon with or without an intervention of a primer coated layer. In the practice of the invention, radiation is directed onto a surface of the painted layer so as to excite the sample. The intensity of resultant Compton scattering rays, the intensity of resultant fluorescent X-rays emitted from zinc contained in a plated zinc and the intensity of resultant fluorescent X-rays emitted from strontium contained in the primer coated layer are measured, and also the absorption of the fluorescent X-rays are taken into consideration, to provide a basis for calculation of the amount of paint coating forming the painted layer. In this way, the amount of primer and paint material both applied to the galvanized steel can be easily measured on a non-destructive basis.

  • Patent number: 5116431
Abstract: A flame-sprayed layer comprising 1.0 to 1.5% by weight of C, 2.0 to 4.0% by weight of B, 2.0 to 4.0% by weight of Si, 1.0 to 6.0% by weight of Fe, 10.0 to 16.0% by weight of W, 5.0 to 21.0% by weight of Cr and 10.0 to 15.0% by weight of Ni, with the balance being Co, is formed on the surface of an immersion member for a hot dip galvanizing bath. This surface layer has improved corrosion resistance and abrasion resistance and an excellent peeling resistance (adhesion), and the life of the immersion member is prolonged and a galvanization product having a uniform quality and having no flaws can be prepared by using an immersion member having this flame-sprayed surface layer. These effects are enhanced when the formed flame-sprayed layer is heated at a temperature-elevating rate of 10.degree. to 100.degree. C./hr and maintained at a pre-heating temperature of 300.degree. to 600.degree. C. for at least 0.5 hour, the fusing treatment is conducted at a temperature of at least 1000.degree. C.
