Abstract: The novel compound of 5-methyl-2-(2'-oxo-3'-butyl)phenol represented by the formula ##STR1## This compound emits a characteristic sweet fragrance and a perfume composition comprising this compound is also provided.
Abstract: A process is described for producing polycondensates of .omega.-oxypentadecanoic acid comprising hydrogenolysis of 2-tetrahydrofuran-undecanoic acid or an ester thereof using a mixed catalyst composed of a catalyst for hydrogenation comprising one or more metals of Group VIII of the Periodic Table, copper-chromium, or copper-zinc, and a solid acid catalyst, by heating under pressure with hydrogen.
Abstract: A process as described for preparing hydroxycitronellal by isomerizing certain 7-hydroxygeranylamine compound or 7-hydroxynerylamine compounds using a catalyst comprising a divalent palladium compound and a phosphine compound.
Abstract: A process for preparing a brassylic diester of the formula:ROOC--CH.sub.2).sub.11 COORwherein R is a lower alkyl group by hydrocracking 6,6'-methylenebis-(6-hexanolide) in an alcohol of the formula:ROH(wherein R is as defined above) in the presence of a metal catalyst and an acid catalyst. A process for producing the hexanolide is also disclosed.
Abstract: A process for producing .omega.-alkene-1-ols which comprises reacting an .alpha.,.omega.-alkanediol having 4 to 14 carbon atoms with a fatty acid selected from the group consisting of stearic acid, palmitic acid and a mixture of stearic acid and palmitic acid.
Abstract: A norbornane or norbornene derivative of the formula (I): ##STR1## wherein the bond represented by the dotted line is present or absent and n is 0 or 1, the norbornane and norbornene derivatives having a characteristic odor of sandalwood oil and useful for perfumery; and a process for the production thereof.

Abstract: A process for producing hydrocarbons having about 10 to 50 carbon atoms with a high yield by subjecting a synthetic polyisoprene rubber to a thermally destructive distillation under a reduced pressure and further a process for producing squalane-like saturated hydrocarbons by catalytically reducing the distillate thus obtained from the synthetic polyisoprene rubber.
Abstract: A chewing gum base containing natural rubber, basic gum additives and a decomposition product obtained by thermally decomposing natural rubber at a temperature of 200.degree. C. to 350.degree. C. in an inert atmosphere and removing low boiling point fractions up to 160.degree. C. at a pressure of approximately 1 mm Hg.
Abstract: A process for preparing derivatives of isoprene dimers, which are useful as materials for producing perfumes, pharmaceuticals and industrial chemicals, comprising catalytically reacting isoprene with an active methyl-containing compound, such as methacrylonitrile, using bis-.pi.-allyl nickel or bis-cyclooctadiene nickel as a catalyst and triphenyl phosphine, triphenyl phosphite, tributyl arsenic or tricyclohexyl phosphine as a ligand and a tertiaryamine compound as a solvent.
Abstract: A process for producing menthone comprising dehydrogenating citronellol in the presence of a dehydrogenation catalyst at about 150 to about 260.degree. C in an atmosphere of hydrogen under a pressure of 0 to about 5 kg/cm.sup.2. G and a process for producing menthol. Since the dehydrogenation catalyst has a hydrogenating ability, an embodiment additionally includes the ability to ultimately produce menthol in the same reactor without separating the catalyst or adding additional or another catalyst to the system by simply changing the temperature and the hydrogen pressure. Embodiments also include producing menthone and also ultimately menthol utilizing geraniol or a mixture of geraniol and citronellol as a starting material again without catalyst separation or use of additional or another catalyst.
