  • Publication number: 20040251365
Abstract: A fastening device for a seat belt comprising at least one belt-force-limiting element which, in the event of an accident, limits the retaining force acting on a person protected by the seat belt by enabling the seat belt to yield to a predetermined extent. The belt-force-limiting element includes a wire-unwinding device from which at least one wire can be pulled out on exertion of a predetermined tensile force, and one end of the seat belt is connected indirectly or directly to the at least one wire in such a manner that the at least one wire is pulled out of the wire-unwinding device as soon as the retaining force exerted by the seat belt on the occupant reaches or exceeds the predetermined tensile force.

  • Publication number: 20040195420
Abstract: A belt retractor for a seatbelt comprising a retractor pawl which blocks the seatbelt from being pulled out of the belt retractor in the event of an accident, and having a tightening device which tightens the seatbelt in a hazardous situation, the tightening device includes a tightening pawl which, in a blocking position, blocks the belt retractor in the belt uncoiling direction and, in a release position, leaves the belt retractor unaffected. The tightening pawl is assigned a sensor which monitors the position of the tightening pawl and transmits a signal indicating the position of the tightening pawl to a control device of the tightening device.

  • Publication number: 20040195422
Abstract: A belt retractor for a seat belt includes a belt reel, an eccentric disc connected to the belt reel, a cam disc driven by the eccentric disc, and a blocking pawl. The blocking pawl, in a blocking position, blocks a toothed ratchet wheel, and, in a release position, leaves the toothed ratchet wheel unaffected. The blocking pawl may be switched from the release position into the blocking position and conversely from the blocking position into the release position with the cam disc. For the belt retractor to be independent of tolerances, provision is made for the cam disc to have an engaging cam for engaging the blocking position of the blocking pawl and a disengaging cam for engaging the release position of the blocking pawl.

  • Patent number: 6789761
Abstract: A belt reel has a spindle having a main body portion and a relatively rotatable end member that can be latched to a fixed frame upon triggering of an activation device. The main body portion of the spindle is formed with a bore which is filled with hydraulic fluid. The spindle further includes a force-limiting element which cooperates with the hydraulic fluid in the bore to produce a resistance against which the spindle body must be rotated when the relatively rotatable end member is latched to the frame.

  • Patent number: 6783151
Abstract: An airbag arrangement for a motor vehicle includes an airbag deployable in a direction to protect a vehicle occupant and an arrangement for limiting the unfolding impulse of the airbag upon an obstacle placed in a deployment path of the airbag to reduce the unfolding impulse transferred to the obstacle. The limitation arrangement, which can be, for example, a sheath, aperture in the airbag, can respond to the resistance of the occupant located in the deployment path, which is outside a normal seating position, or respond to a lack of resistance from the passenger. As the limitation arrangement limits the unfolding impulse of the airbag, it reduces the maximum unfolding impulse transferable to the occupant located outside the normal seating, in the deploying path.

  • Publication number: 20040135361
Abstract: A belt-buckle tightener for a seat belt system in a vehicle, having: a rotatable spindle which is connected to a belt buckle via a draw-in cable; and a drive for rotation of the spindle, as a result of which the draw-in cable is rolled up on the spindle and the belt buckle is moved in the tightening direction, and the drive being integrated in the spindle. Integration of the drive in the spindle reduces the structural space required. In addition, the number of individual parts which are required is reduced since, inter alia, a separate driving spindle is not required. Rather, the spindle for winding up the draw-in cable at the same time forms the driving spindle.

  • Publication number: 20040104293
Abstract: A seat belt device is provided. The seat belt device has a seat belt roller together with a locking device for locking the seat belt roller. The seat belt device furthermore has a guide pin which is moveably supported inside a guide link and is coupled to the locking device. The displacement of the guide pin inside the guide link depends on the direction of movement of the seat belt roller. The coupling of the pin to the locking device provides that locking of the seat belt roller is either brought about or prevented, according to the positioning of the guide pin in the guide link. The seat belt device makes it possible to ensure that seat belt locking is activated only when unreeling, and not when the set belt is being reeled in.

  • Patent number: 6572137
Abstract: A vehicle has an airbag arrangement for protecting the occupant from neck whiplash during a front or rear collision and the cervical spine during a vehicle roll over. The airbag arrangement has an airbag device integrated with the vehicle seat. The airbag device has at least one airbag for protecting the occupant's head/neck region. The airbag is fully inflated when the vehicle rolls over. In that state, the airbag projects from the vehicle seat in such a way that it actively bends the occupant's head toward the occupant's chest, i.e., rolls the upper body for better protection. During a front and rear collision without a roller over, however, the airbag only partially inflates to an extent to position the airbag between the occupant's head and the head restraint, without displacing the occupant's head with the airbag.
