  • Patent number: 10894725
Abstract: Process steps for monitoring the performance of a wastewater treatment system having a series of filtration units and optionally one or more disinfection units, controlling the operation of the filtration units, and controlling the operation of one or more maintenance operations that can be performed on the filtration units as a result of the monitoring. The wastewater treatment system can be operated without breaking pressure between the filtration units. Monitoring the performance of the wastewater treatment system can include using the water quality at various points in the system as an indicator of clogging or integrity issues within the filtration units. Sensors can be configured to measure properties of wastewater both upstream and downstream of each filtration unit, and the measured properties can be used to determine whether the filtration unit is performing adequately.

  • Patent number: 10744465
Abstract: A filtration unit for purifying or treating fluid that includes one or more membrane units having a permeate section. The permeate section of the membrane units is fed fluid that passes through a sealing insert having a fluid inlet and a passage that discharges in fluid communication with the permeate section. The sealing insert is arranged in a support frame of the membrane unit to form a fluid channel for delivering fluid through the insert and along an outer perimeter surface that maintains performance of the membrane unit during operation.

  • Patent number: 10703658
Abstract: A tank is disclosed as having a tub therein that divides the volume of the tank into an anoxic chamber inside the tub and an equalization chamber outside of the tub. The anoxic chamber anoxically treats wastewater while the equalization chamber equalizes fluctuations in wastewater influent as well as provides a holding space for wastewater if power to the tank is cut off. The tank can be part of a system for treating wastewater, such as one with an anaerobic tank having an anaerobic chamber for anaerobically treating wastewater, an aerobic/filtration tank having a filtration sub-tank therein that divides the volume of the tank into a filtration chamber inside the sub-tank and an aerobic chamber outside of the sub-tank. The aerobic chamber can aerobically treat wastewater while the filtration chamber has a membrane unit for filtering wastewater.

  • Patent number: 10407332
Abstract: A wastewater treatment system includes a biological reactor having anaerobic, anoxic, and aerobic chambers. A lift station including a pump is operatively connected to a tertiary filter downstream of the biological reactor. The lift station receives biologically treated liquid from the tertiary filter and pumps the liquid from the lift station. A filtration subsystem is operatively connected to the lift station. The filtration subsystem receives and filters the liquid pumped by the lift station. The filtration subsystem includes a preliminary filter and a salt-rejecting membrane filter having a recycle conduit operatively connected to recirculate salt-rejecting membrane filter, thereby forming a salt concentration loop between biological reactor and the salt-rejecting membrane filter. A post-filtration subsystem is operatively connected to receive salt-rejecting membrane filter permeate, and includes an adsorbent and oxidation system.

  • Patent number: 9724645
Abstract: An apparatus and method for abating scale formation during the purification and demineralization of water in an electrochemical deionization apparatus. In the apparatus and method, scale forming ions in a raw water feed are precipitated at a controlled location remote from the deionization chambers of the deionization apparatus. Concentrate water produced during the deionization process to produce demineralized product water is acidified and circulated through the deionization apparatus to prevent scale formation and build-up in the deionization apparatus.

  • Patent number: 9493368
Abstract: A method of precipitating scale from water includes providing an electrochemical cell. The electrochemical cell includes a primary cathode chamber including a first electrode therein, a primary anode chamber including a second electrode therein, and a cation exchange membrane separating the primary cathode chamber from the primary anode chamber. A flow of feed water is split into separate input flows to each of the primary cathode chamber and the primary anode chamber. The pH of the water in the primary anode chamber is reduced by electrolysis. The pH of water in the primary cathode chamber is increased by electrolysis, and cations are removed from the water in the primary cathode chamber by forming scale on the first electrode in the primary cathode chamber. Separate treated water output flows, from each of the primary cathode chamber and primary anode chamber, are combined into a combined conditioned water flow.
