  • Patent number: 5628898
Abstract: The invention relates to a backwashable filter, which comprises superimposed elements, particularly having an annular design, for producing filter candles. In the case of the filter candles the elements are subject to a radial through-flow from the inside to the outside in filter operation, whereas the flow direction is reversed for backwashing. On the inside of the filter layer is provided on each element a lip, elastically deflectable in the flow direction and facing the flow, which forms a gap opening with a fixed edge of the adjacent element. Under the action of the differential pressure of the flow acting on the wide front face of the lip, the lip performs a movement in which the gap opening is narrowed to a limited extent and as a result of the elastic deformation corresponding restoring forces are built up.

  • Patent number: 5333674
Abstract: The invention concerns a method for measuring the cleaning effectiveness of cleaning bodies (20) on heat exchangers having a bunch of tubes (16). Further, a method and a plant is proposed with which the heat transfer from steam into cooling water through the walls of the condenser tubes is measured. The measurement is carried out with the aid of an inertialess temperature sensor (15) so that, by highly sensitive measuring of the temperature sequence of a certain control volume, the cleaning effect of the cleaning bodies can be derived.

  • Patent number: 5255977
Abstract: The invention relates to a method and to an apparatus for monitoring the heat transfer and therefore the efficiency of a condenser. A water column is formed by shutting off a condenser pipe which assumes the steam temperature T.sub.s and whose outflow time after the resumption of the flow can be utilized for measuring the flow velocity. With the knowledge of the water inlet temperature T.sub.1 and the water outlet temperature T.sub.2 measured on the same condenser pipe, it is possible to very accurately establish the heat transfer through the measured condenser pipe, so that on the basis thereof it is e.g. possible to operate a cleaning system with foam rubber balls. Thus, each fraction of the possible efficiency of the condenser is exploited.

  • Patent number: 4830099
Abstract: Apparatus for extracting cleaning bodies from a cooling liquid after flowing through the tubes of a heat exchanger as a pipe section casing with at least one layer of screens arranged in a V-shaped manner mounted to be pivoted for through-washing includes a device for receiving the cleaning bodies collected in a strip-like section from both screens and a guide member arranged above the device for aligning the cooling fluid flow more parallel to the screen surfaces directly upstream from the strip section. The apparatus is characterized in that the guide member is provided with two vortex members running parallel to the strip section with each vortex member being associated with one of the two screens to form one vortex zone with at least one point within the vortex zone terminating in an opening of a pipe for sucking off the cleaning bodies.

  • Patent number: 4676302
Abstract: The invention relates to a collecting device for cleaning members at the outlet of a heat exchanger, which is directly connected or, after passing through spacers or a bend, is reached by the flow from the outlet. In order to avoid speed peaks, in the often inhomogeneous flow, an intake aid is provided at the discharge point of the outlet, which is intended to render to flow uniform. As a result the screens conventionally used in the collecting device can have a smaller angle of inclination, which has an advantageous effect on the space requirements and the manufacturing costs.
