Patent number: 9295863Abstract: A new haptic flow indicator has a spinner that is mounted for rotation and provides a discernable haptic feedback to a firefighter when liquid flow through the indicator falls in a selected range.Type: GrantFiled: February 28, 2014Date of Patent: March 29, 2016Assignee: TASK FORCE TIPS, INCORPORATEDInventors: Stewart McMillan, David J. Kolacz

Patent number: 9272171Abstract: A new firefighting monitor has multiple pivoting conduit segments and a synchronization mechanism with engaging faces that automatically restrain pivoting of an intermediate conduit segment with respect to an upstream conduit segment when the downstream conduit segment is pivotable with respect to the intermediate conduit segment, and automatically restrain pivoting of the downstream conduit segment with respect to the intermediate conduit segment when the intermediate conduit segment is pivotable with respect to the upstream conduit segment. In a variation, an intermeshed gear train causes a downstream conduit segment to pivot proportionately with respect to an intermediate conduit segment as the intermediate conduit segment pivots with respect to the upstream conduit segment.Type: GrantFiled: March 15, 2013Date of Patent: March 1, 2016Assignee: TASK FORCE TIPS, INCORPORATEDInventors: David J. Kolacz, William D. Walker, Robert W. Steingass

Patent number: 9138754Abstract: A new firefighting nozzle has a base nozzle with one size or type of orifice and one or more auxiliary nozzles with a different size or type of orifice that a firefighter can easily see. A firefighter can swing the auxiliary nozzle into series with the base nozzle to change the flow. A springy element biases a locking element on the auxiliary nozzle from a retracted position toward an extended position in which it locks the auxiliary nozzle in place.Type: GrantFiled: March 8, 2013Date of Patent: September 22, 2015Assignee: TASK FORCE TIPS, INCORPORATEDInventors: Robert W. Steingass, Stewart McMillan, Gene Spencer, David J. Kolacz

Patent number: 4653693Abstract: A peripheral jet fire fighting fog nozzle having mounted on the discharge end thereof a stream-shaping sleeve provided with a convex end face adapted to form an open outer cone-like spray pattern and a plurality of circumferentially spaced fog teeth extending axially from the convex end face with axially extending convex lateral surfaces on the teeth adapted to spread the spray pattern laterally and fill in the lateral opening or gaps in the outer spray pattern. Rounded axially extending inner end surfaces provided on the fog teeth together with adjacent lateral surfaces of the fog teeth are adapted to form uniform droplets which are uniformly distributed within the interior of the outer conical spray pattern to form a uniform conical spray pattern which has a wide angle of divergence and is free of circumferential gaps.Type: GrantFiled: August 27, 1984Date of Patent: March 31, 1987Assignee: Task Force Tips IncorporatedInventor: Robert W. Steingass

Patent number: 4589439Abstract: A flow-control valve assembly particularly useful in fire fighting apparatus comprising a contoured valve seat mounted axially within a valve body and a balanced tubular valve member reciprocably movable in the valve body coaxially with said valve seat for providing proportional flow control, manual valve actuating means for reciprocably moving the tubular valve member including a disc rotatably mounted in a bore formed in a lateral surface of the valve body on a pivot member on which a handle is pivotally mounted and a pin spaced from the pivotal member extending through the handle and the disc which engages in a circumferential groove formed in the outer surface of the tubular valve member for effecting reciprocable movement of the valve member when the handle is reciprocably moved. The disc can be made of deformable material and provided with means for expanding the disc to impart a braking action on the movement of the handle.Type: GrantFiled: August 27, 1984Date of Patent: May 20, 1986Assignee: Task Force Tips IncorporatedInventor: Robert W.
