Abstract: A surgical staple includes multiple arms extending from a transverse connection area, each of the arms having tissue-gripping teeth and a resistance area of increased width located between the transverse connection area and the gripping area. In another aspect, a surgical staple includes two arms connected by an arcuate folding joint, with a deformation area located between the folding joint and a laterally enlarged resistance area, and with laterally projecting teeth longitudinally located outboard of the resistance area on each of the arms.
