An antenna device comprises a housing for allowing a display unit for displaying visual information to be disposed on the principal surface F1, and an antenna element incorporated in the housing for radiating a radio wave from an end face F2 contacting with the principal surface F1 of the housing.
Abstract: It is an object of the present invention to provide a method for recording information in an optical recording medium with a good direct overwriting characteristic. The method for recording information in an optical recording medium according to the present invention forms record marks in a recording layer containing a phase change material by modulating the power of a laser beam between a plurality of power levels including a recording power Pw, an erasing power Pe and ground power Pb. The erasing power Pe is set to a level within a region where a reflection coefficient of a region between neighboring record marks approaches a reflection coefficient of the record mark as the erasing power Pe increases. As a result, a good overwriting characteristic can be obtained when data are recorded at a high linear velocity.
Abstract: An optical recording medium wherein a recording layer, an absorbent layer and a radiating layer are provided in this order as seen from a recording/reproducing light incidence side and recording/reproduction is carried out on a condition that an extinction coefficient k of the absorbent layer is k>0 in a wavelength of recording/reproducing light, and a relationship between a wavelength &lgr; of the recording/reproducing light and a numerical aperture NA of an irradiating optical system of the recording/reproducing light is &lgr;/NA≦680 nm. An optical recording medium wherein an absorbent layer and a recording layer are provided in this order as seen from a recording/reproducing light incidence side and an extinction coefficient k of the absorbent layer is k>0 in a wavelength of recording/reproducing light, and a signal including a minimum mark having a mark length Ms of MS≦0.17 &mgr;m is recorded.
Abstract: A method and computer program to calculate a reproduction track width of a MR head. This method begins by subdividing the magnetic domain control layer of a MR element and lead conductors into several polyhedral elements. Thereafter, electric potentials are calculated for each of the polyhedral elements based on the resistance at each layer. A current density is determined for each of the polyhedral elements based on the calculated electric potentials. The current densities are integrated to calculate an initial resistance value. Further, the resistance of a local block is changed by a predetermined amount. The electric potential is calculated for each of the polyhedral elements, current density is acquired, and the acquired current densities is calculated to determine a resistance value. Finally, the reproduction track width is obtained based on the initial acquired resistance value and the acquired resistance value.
Abstract: A molecular sensor comprising a sensor film containing a metal compound wherein Raman spectroscopic analysis is carried out utilizing the amplification of Raman light by the localized plasmons that fine particles resulting from reduction of the metal compound generate has a small size and a very high sensitivity. A high sensitivity Raman spectroscopic process is provided.

Abstract: An exchange-coupled film has a ferromagnetic layer sandwich comprising a first ferromagnetic layer containing a ferromagnetic material of the body-centered cubic structure and a pair of second ferromagnetic layers containing a ferromagnetic material of the face-centered cubic structure and formed on respective sides of the first ferromagnetic layer; and an antiferromagnetic layer containing a disordered alloy and formed on one of the second ferromagnetic layers. It yields sufficient exchange coupling energy even in smaller thickness of the antiferromagnetic layer than before, whereby it becomes feasible to decrease the thickness of the exchange-coupled film.

Abstract: In an optical information medium comprising a supporting substrate, an information recording layer thereon, and a light-transmitting layer wherein a recording/reading laser beam enters the recording layer through the light-transmitting layer, the light-transmitting layer is formed of a resin and has a tensile strength at break of 5-40 MPa, a tensile elongation at break of 15-100%, and a tensile modulus of 40-1,000 MPa. The medium has improved recording/reading characteristics when a laser beam defines a beam spot having a small diameter of up to 300 &mgr;m and the medium is rotated at a high linear velocity of at least 8 m/s.
Abstract: The present invention provides an optical recording medium that includes a recording layer composed mainly of an organic compound and can utilize blue-violet semiconductor laser light (390 to 420 nm in wavelength) as recording/reproducing laser light. The present invention also provides an optical recording/reproducing method using the optical recording medium. The optical recording medium 1 comprises at least a supporting substrate 2; a recording layer 3 on the supporting substrate 2, the recording layer 3 containing an organic compound as a major component; and a light-transmitting layer 5 on the recording layer 3, the light-transmitting layer 5 being capable of transmitting laser light with a wavelength of 390 to 420 nm for recording and reproducing information.
Abstract: The present invention aims at providing a phosphor thin film capable of realizing a light-emitting device attaining an excellent response, favorable color purity, and emission with a high luminance; and an EL panel including the same. The EL panel including the phosphor thin film of the present invention comprises a substrate, and a lower electrode, an insulating layer, an EL phosphor laminate thin film, and an upper electrode which are successively laminated on the substrate. In the EL phosphor laminate thin film, buffer thin films are formed on both sides of a phosphor thin film comprising a matrix material which is essentially constituted by magnesium gallate and doped with a rare-earth element or the like, and electron injection thin films are further formed on both sides thereof.
Abstract: An HAA includes a head slider having at least one head element, an arm member for supporting the head slider at one end section, an actuator, mounted to the other end section of the arm member, for rotationally moving the arm member in a direction substantially parallel with a recording medium surface around a horizontal rotation axis of the arm member, and a load generation unit for generating a load for energizing the head slider in a direction to the recording medium surface by rotationally moving the arm member in a direction substantially orthogonal to the recording medium surface around a vertical rotation axis. The position of the center of gravity of the HAA is located at a different position from the vertical rotation axis on a center axis of the arm member.
Abstract: A magnetoresistive (MR) head including, for example, a spin valve (SV) MR element having a sense current passing through the SV in a current-perpendicular-to-the-plane (CPP) mode. A free layer of the SV is transversely biased by a magnetostatic coupling field from an in-stack transverse bias layer. The transverse bias layer is separated from the free layer by a nonmagnetic high resistive spacer layer, which can cause strong spin memory loss and also provide a longitudinal biasing to the free layer of the SV. An out of stack longitudinal bias arrangement may alternatively be provided to impart a longitudinal bias to the free layer. The SV MR element comprises a MR promoting (MRP) layer either within in or adjacent to the free layer 90 or the pinned layer 110 This MR head structure provides enhanced linearity of the response to the magnetic field being sensed.

Abstract: The invention is a tape cartridge including a single tape reel around which a length of magnetic tape is wound and which is turnably held within a housing. The beginning of the tape is fixed to a leader so that it can be drawn out through an opening formed in the housing by a tape drawing-out member of a recorder which has an end capable of engaging the tape end. The leader includes a metallic center pin member on which the beginning of the tape is wound and a pair of engaging members of synthetic resin joined to upper and lower ends of said pin member so as to engage the tape drawing-out member of the recorder. The engaging members are molded together integrally with the upper and lower ends of the pin member.
