  • Patent number: 4213084
Abstract: A variable leakage transformer or a variable voltage transformer comprising a magnetic core with a main magnetic path and a sub-magnetic path, the main magnetic path having at least a common magnetic path with the sub-magnetic path, a primary winding wound on said common magnetic path of the core, a secondary winding wound on said main magnetic path of the core, and means for controlling the magnetic flux in said sub-magnetic path. By controlling the magnetic flux in the sub-magnetic path, the leakage of the flux induced by the primary winding from the main magnetic path to the sub-magnetic path can be controlled, thus the coupling between the primary and secondary windings, and conduction period in each cycle of the AC output voltage are controlled. The control of the conduction period in each cycle provides the control of the power transmitted from the primary winding to the secondary winding.

  • Patent number: 4188211
Abstract: During investigation of thermal stability of the amorphous magnetic alloys by the Inventors, it was discovered that, due to the application of heat to the alloys, the hysteresis loop of the conventional, amorphous magnetic alloys was shifted in such a manner that the initial permeability of the alloys was decreased. It was also discovered that the initial permeability of the conventional amorphous magnetic alloys was irreversibly changed due to the application of heat to and the withdrawal of heat from the alloys. The present invention is characterized by the discovery of an unexpected relationship between the content of metallic elements and a metalloid element(s) of the amorphous alloy composition, thereby providing novel alloy compositions with thermally stable magnetic properties. The present invention is also characterized by incorporating an additional element or elements into an amorphous magnetic alloy, thereby providing the alloy with thermal stability.

  • Patent number: 4022716
Abstract: Semiconducting ceramics are produced by firing a semiconducting composition of the barium titanate type containing vanadium oxide in the amount of 0.001 to 0.5 wt%. A change in the specific resistance over the range of the temperature at which the positive temperature coefficient characteristic of resistivity (PTCR) is exhibited can be increased by as much as 10.sup.5 times and the specific resistance value at room temperature can be controlled at a desired value. By further adding silicon dioxide to the above composition in the amount of 0.05 to 1.5 wt% the above effects can be enhanced, especially the specific resistance at ambient temperature.

  • Patent number: 4008432
Abstract: Apparatus for detecting an external magnetic field comprises a magnetic sensor which produces para-magnetic oscillations and includes an elongated member of an electrically conductive material and a thin magnetic film disposed thereabout. Alternative embodiments of the invention are presented in each of which the detection of an external magnetic field by the sensor results in a change in the oscillating state. In a first embodiment, the sensor is maintained normally in an oscillating state of a given domain and thus a given phase; when the sensor is subjected to an external magnetic field of appropriate intensity and polarity, the magnetization of the sensor shifts from the first domain to the second domain and accordingly there is produced a change or reversal in phase of the oscillatory output derived from the sensor. In that change of phase, the sensor output passes through a zero voltage value which is detected for providing an indication of the sensing of the external magnetic field.

  • Patent number: 3997479
Abstract: A method of manufacturing barium titanate semiconducting ceramics having a positive temperature coefficient characteristic of resistivity in which a composite, expressed by a general formula (Ba.sub.1.sub.-x.sub.-y Pb.sub.x R.sub.y) TiO.sub.3 (where 0<x.ltoreq.0.8, y is the remainder and R represents a rare earth element) is mixed with either tantalum or niobium or both in the amount of 0.05 to 0.5 atomic % and fired in the air or in an atmosphere containing oxygen, the total amount of the rare earth in the composite combined with the total amount of tantalum or niobium or both added thereto being in the range of 0.1 to 0.55 atomic %. The addition of tantalum and/or niobium in this manufacturing method prevents the evaporation of lead from the composite and eliminates the need to employ a lead oxide gas atmosphere while providing semiconducting ceramics having stable and excellent ceramic and electrical characteristics.
