Abstract: A vise including a body, a threaded shaft extending through or positioned adjacent to the body, and a block coupled to the body and spaced away from an axial end of the shaft. The vise further includes a pair of carriages carried on the shaft and configured such that rotation of the shaft about a central axis thereof causes each carriage to move axially along the shaft. The vise also includes a pair of clamps releasably coupled to the shaft and positioned adjacent to the block on opposite sides thereof. Each clamp is adjustable axially along the shaft to enable adjustment of an axial position of the shaft relative to the block.
Abstract: A vise including a threaded shaft and a carriage threadably coupled to the shaft such that rotation of the shaft causes the carriage to move along an axis. The vise further includes an insert that is removably coupleable to said carriage, wherein one of the carriage or the insert includes a groove formed therein having a pair of parallel, spaced-apart side walls and defining the groove therebetween, or having a pair of side walls that do not diverge in a direction moving from an outer portion of the groove to a bottom thereof. The other one of the carriage or the insert includes a protrusion that is removably receivable in the groove in a direction generally perpendicular to the axis to thereby removably couple the insert to the carriage.

Abstract: A jaw plate for a vise including a selectively extendable pin for locating a workpiece. An exemplary jaw plate may be installed in a workholding device, such as a vise, which may be used to hold a workpiece proximate a machine tool. An exemplary jaw plate includes a plurality of pins at predetermined locations along the jaw plate's front face. The pins may be individually selectively extended or retracted by an operator. In their extended positions, the pins may assist the operator in locating the workpiece relative to the machine tool in a correct and repeatable position.
