  • Publication number: 20110222386
Abstract: There is provided an optical disk drive that pursues power saving and simultaneously assures data recording quality. A servo processor of the optical disk drive has a low frequency equalizer, a high frequency equalizer, a limiter, and an adder. A limit voltage value of the limiter is set by means of a control command from a system controller. The limit voltage value is set so as to become greater during a data recording period than in a data regeneration period. An output from the adder is supplied as a tracking drive signal to a tracking actuator or as a focus drive signal to a focus actuator.

  • Patent number: 8018798
Abstract: A demodulation circuit accurately demodulates a wobble signal of an optical disk without being affected by a phase shift induced by crosstalk. An A-D converter subjects wobble signal reproduced from an optical disk to A-D conversion and feeds a result of conversion to a zero-crossing detection circuit. The zero-crossing detection circuit detects zero-crossing points of the wobble signal. A sinusoidal wave generation circuit generates a sinusoidal wave by means of sequentially connecting sinusoidal wave elements whose periods are each equal to a time interval between zero-crossing points. A multiplier multiplies an original wobble signal by a sinusoidal wave signal. A slicer detects an HMW-modulated portion of the wobble signal, and another slicer detects an MSK-modulated portion of the wobble signal.

  • Patent number: 8015575
Abstract: An optical disk device has a casing, an insertion slot and a loading mechanism for loading a disk. A shutter is shiftable transversely to an elongate slot shape of the insertion slot, closes the insertion slot partially when in a closed position, and opens the insertion slot when in an open position. A coupling hole is disposed at an end of the shutter with respect to the elongate slot shape. A shift lever moves the coupling hole in a first direction along the elongate slot shape upon shifting of the loading mechanism for loading, and moves the coupling hole in a second direction upon shifting of the loading mechanism for unloading. A cam mechanism shifts the shutter to the closed position when the coupling hole is moved in the first direction, and shifts the shutter to the open position when the coupling hole is moved in the second direction.

  • Patent number: 8009537
Abstract: A disk inspection apparatus for discriminating disks. The disk inspection apparatus has an ECC control section and a comparison section. The ECC control section measures the number of error corrections PIE and the number of error correction failures PIF in a predetermined section of the disk. The comparison section discriminates the disk as a disk with a deterioration in jitter characteristic when the minimum or the average of the PIE exceeds a first threshold value; discriminates the disk as a normal disk when the maximum of the PIF is equal to or smaller than a second threshold and the minimum or the average of the PIE is equal to or smaller than the first threshold value; and discriminates the disk as a scratched disk when the minimum or the average of the PIE is equal to or smaller than the first threshold value and the maximum of the PIF exceeds the second threshold value.

  • Patent number: 8000190
Abstract: An optical disk device which flexibly and efficiently executes verification of recorded data is provided. A drive controller sets an area to be verified and a mode of verification according to a command which is supplied from a host device. For the area to be verified, the user selects one or a plurality of lead-in, inner, middle, and outer areas. For the verification mode, the user selects one of an immediate execution mode and an in-close-command execution mode. In a duplicator or the like in which same data is recorded on a plurality of optical disks, the user can designate an important data portion and selectively execute verification.

  • Patent number: 7983132
Abstract: An optical disk apparatus for enhancing time resolution of an RF sum signal. A reproduction sum signal (a signal A+a signal D) on the leading side and a reproduction sum signal (a signal B+a signal C) on the following side, which have been output from a four-quadrant photodetection section of an optical pickup, are supplied to first and second A/D converters. The first A/D converter samples a signal in accordance with a first clock signal CLK, and the second A/D converter samples a signal in accordance with a second clock signal CLK. The first and second clock signals CLK are out of phase with each other. By means of a phase difference between the clock signals, a phase difference between the leading-side reproduction signals and the following-side reproduction signals is compensated for. The phase difference between the first and second clock signals CLK is adjusted such that the quality of a reproduction signal, such as jitter, an error rate, or the like, is optimized.

  • Patent number: 7983130
Abstract: An optical disk processing system having a recording unit and a printing unit is provided. An optical disk processing system comprises a printing unit and a recording unit. An optical disk is driven with a low torque and then with a high torque. Based on reaching times until target rotational speeds are reached when the optical disk is driven with the low torque and the high torque, a type of the optical disk is judged. Loading of a plurality of optical disks is detected when the judgment results for low torque and for high torque do not match.

  • Patent number: 7983119
Abstract: An optical disc apparatus reliably executes a seek operation even if an optical disc is warped. Tilt adjustment values spanning from the inner circumference to the outer circumference of an optical disc are stored. When seeking from a start address to a destination address, a tilt adjustment value A at the start address and a tilt adjustment address C at the destination address are not directly used. A tilt adjustment value k·C (k<1) is used during a coarse seek operation until the neighborhood of the destination address and a tilt adjustment value C is used during a fine seek operation from the neighborhood of the destination address to the destination address.

  • Patent number: 7977563
Abstract: A CPU of an overdubbing device plays back a music file recorded in a memory card of the device and outputs the file as a played-back audio signal while mixing the played-back audio signal with an external audio signal input from the outside, to thus perform overdubbing. A music file recorded through overdubbing last time is automatically set as a playback music file for the next time, and a selected state of means for selecting execution/nonexecution of overdubbing is maintained as the state of execution. As a result, overdubbing is enabled by twice operations of a record key, whereby the operation is made identical with operation performed during ordinary recording. Further, playback is performed by changing either playback speed or musical interval of the playback music file.

  • Patent number: 7957235
Abstract: A disk drive controls the rotational speed of a disk to an appropriate value. A system controller of the drive stores data read from a disk and read-ahead data into buffer memory. A time interval ti at which the buffer memory becomes full is measured, and the time interval ti is compared with a predetermined lower limit value t1 and a predetermined upper limit value t2. When a relationship of ti>t2 stands, rotational speed is increased. When a relationship of ti<t1 stands, control is performed in such a way that the rotational speed is decreased so as to achieve t1?ti?t2.

  • Patent number: 7957239
Abstract: In an optical disk drive, running OPC (ROPC) is performed without fail, to thus enhance recording quality. ROPC is performed by use of a remaining portion of an area for APC operation within an APC area of a recording unit (RUB) in a next-generation optical disk such as a blu-ray disk. ROPC is performed by means of tentatively writing test data having a length of 50 T longer than a specified length of data to be recorded; and detecting level B of the amount of light reflected at that time. The APC area is formed from five wobble periods. APC is performed in periods of first two wobbles, and ROPC is performed in remaining three wobble periods.

  • Publication number: 20110029993
Abstract: To eject an optical disk forcibly from a disk device by a manual operation, an operation pin is inserted into an emergency hole of a front bezel. Then, the operation pin causes first and second ejection levers to move rearward to push a first transmission gear down to a disengaged position. When the first transmission gear is pushed down to the disengaged position, a loading slider begins to move forward according to a biasing force of a coil spring, feeding the disk outward. After moving a distance forward, the loading slider is stopped against a receiving portion of a first ejection lever, thereby to stop the disk at a half-eject position where the disk slightly protrudes from the bezel. Thereafter, when the operation pin is pulled out, the loading slider moves forward along with the pull-out movement of the operation pin, and the disk is fed out to a full-eject position.
