Abstract: Integrated blackjack hole card readers and chip racks, and novel locking cover assemblies, are disclosed. In one embodiment, a chip rack of standard configuration is provided, and defines a cutout into which the reader can be placed. In another embodiment, the chip rack and reader are molded as a single unit. A removable locking cover is also disclosed which can be used to cover chip racks any time they are not in use.

The side-bet offered may be placed against any dealer face-up card—Ace, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, Jack, Queen, or King. The payoff may vary depending upon the dealer face-up card and paid in accordance with a pay table. The bet may be paid when the dealer hits their hand and exceeds the total of 21, therefore going bust. The bet may lose when the dealer receives a standing hand of 17, 18, 19, 20 or 21. The side-bet may be made once the dealer's face-up card has been determined. The side-bet may be asked for at one time similar to an insurance bet or as each player acts on their individual hands.

Abstract: A card reader for a blackjack table comprised of a card reading device and a housing therefor, said housing attachable to the blackjack table. The card reading device has associated therewith a light source, a power source for energizing said light source, and a platform coplanar with said blackjack table defining an aperture for reading a portion of a face-down playing card. Said aperture is covered partially by a cover to minimize the opportunity of black jack players other than the dealer to view the portion of the card being inspected. A reflective surface is disposed generally below said aperture to reflect the portion of the face-down card being read through the non-covered portion of the aperture to reveal to the dealer any indicia on the portion of the face down card being read. There is also disclosed herein a method for increasing the speed of play in an organized game of blackjack.
