Abstract: Shredding devices and methods are disclosed for automatically feeding multiple sheets of paper to be simultaneously shredded. The shredding devices include an auto feed portion for receiving and advancing the paper to be shredded. Certain examples include a paper feed tray and an auto feed assembly having a rotatable elongated shaft and a plurality of disks disposed thereon. As the elongated shaft rotates, the plurality of disks engages a stack of paper present in the feed tray and advances multiple sheets of the stack of paper to shredding blades. Certain feed trays are further configured to fold into a top portion of the housing during non-use and can advantageously protect the auto feed assembly. Certain shredding devices further include at least one feed slot for receiving material manually fed into the shredding device by the user.

Abstract: Safety systems and methods are disclosed for controlling operation of office equipment, such as a paper shredder. In one example, the method includes enabling operation of an electric motor configured to drive at least one moveable component of an electronic office appliance. Upon detection of human motion within a prescribed safety zone defined by at least one passive infrared (PIR)-based motion detector during operation of the electric motor, the electric motor is disabled. In one example, the electronic office appliance includes at least two PIR-based motion detectors positioned near at least one moveable component of the electronic office appliance. Operation of the electric motor can be resumed after a predetermined time interval has elapsed without the detection of subsequent human motion within the prescribed safety zone.

Abstract: Document obfuscation devices and systems are disclosed for obfuscating paper documents so as to prevent dissemination of sensitive information without shredding in order to increase recycling potential. Certain obfuscation devices include a pair of rollers, at least one of which is imprinted with an obfuscation pattern, and a mechanism for feeding sheets of paper through the pair of rollers. Certain obfuscation systems include an obfuscation device and a recycle bin coupled together.

Abstract: An alarm system includes a housing that substantially encloses a plurality of sensors and an alarm-signal generator. The housing has a thin profile and may be mountable in various locations, such as on a window surface. The thin profile of the housing allows the alarm system to be attached to the surface of a first window and capable of being located between the first window surface and a second window surface upon relative motion between the first window surface and the second window surface.
