  • Patent number: 5979874
Abstract: A knife gate valve is constructed of two body members bolted together about a resilient gate seat. The two body members and the resilient gate seat include sets of axially aligned bolt holes through which machine bolts extend. Matching flanges on the body members form a recess for receiving the resilient gate seat, thereby constraining its movement and preventing its deformation when the knife gate is closed. The matching flanges also facilitate the uniform tightening of the machine bolts during gate valve assembly.

  • Patent number: 5653423
Abstract: A knife gate valve comprises a body member to which two aligned conduits are attached. The body member has a U-shaped internal recess of predetermined length formed within it. A removable sealing member fits within the recess and extends along its entire length. The sealing member is comprised of rubber which has been cured about a threaded or irregularly surfaced rod that reinforces the seat, helping to keep it in the correct position and orientation in the recess. The rod protrudes from both lengthwise ends of the rubber and is operatively connected with the body of the valve. This prevents the sealing member from being dislodged by the flow of slurry through the valve or the opening action of the valve in the presence of a sticky slurry.

  • Patent number: 5560587
Abstract: A gate valve sealing unit includes first and second annular seal members that are attached to a main body structure within a passageway that receives and is selectively occluded by a gate. The first and second seal members include first and second rigid mounting hubs to which are mounted first and second annular elastomer sleeves, respectively. Each elastomer sleeve has a continuous lip section and plural axially spaced cavities, the lip sections of the first and second sleeves engaging peripheral margins on opposite sides of the gate when it occludes the passageway and engaging each other otherwise. The first and second mounting hubs include axially outward radial flanges that extend from the respective first and second sides of the main body structure.
