  • Patent number: 9978019
Abstract: Method for calculating whether an actual location of a target device is on one side of a boundary zone includes: receiving an estimated location of the target device; receiving a desired confidence level; forming a first circle with radius D, centered at the estimated location, where D is the shortest distance from the estimated location to the boundary zone; forming a second circle with radius R?, centered at the estimated location, wherein R? is determined in such a way so that a likelihood that the actual location is inside the second circle equals or exceeds the desired confidence level; forming an angle with an apex at the estimated location and rays passing through two closest points to the estimated location where the second circle intersects the boundary zone; and using a size of an annulus formed by the first circle, the second circle, and the rays to estimate whether the actual location lies on the same side of the boundary zone.

  • Patent number: 9962607
Abstract: A system for analyzing the use of location-based service applications including: a mobile device. A carrier-positioning infrastructure interacts with the mobile device for enabling the use of location-based applications by the mobile device. A mobile location-based application provider communicates with the carrier-positioning infrastructure to provide a location-based application to the mobile device. A location transaction platform monitors the use of the location-based application by the mobile device. An analytics server communicates with the location transaction platform and location stamps an occurrence of use of the location-based application by the mobile device and performs a task in accordance with predetermined rules as a function of the location-based stamp.

  • Publication number: 20110028122
Abstract: Systems, methods, and software are described for benchmarking the location determination capabilities of a wireless communications network. A mobile communications device is configured to receive data identifying a reference location for the device. A communications network, communicatively coupled with the mobile communications device, calculates a computed location for the device using an alternative location determination technique. The reference location and computed location may be determined for any number of additional devices, as well. The accuracy and reliability of a system may then be assessed by comparing one or more computed locations with associated reference locations. The latency attributable to the calculation of one or more computed locations may also be determined.

  • Patent number: 7412248
Abstract: In one embodiment, a system and method for determining a location of a mobile device are described. A number of different locations for the mobile device is provided using a location determining system. The locations for a number of virtual base stations are determined utilizing the known locations for the mobile device. Then a new location for the mobile device is established based on the determined plurality of locations of the virtual base stations. In one embodiment, a system and method for establishing network references for a first wireless location determining system are described. A plurality of known locations for a mobile device is provided using a second location determining system. Radio signals between the mobile device and base stations of the first wireless location determining system are measured and a plurality of locations for a respective plurality of virtual base stations are determined based on the known locations of the mobile device and the measured radio signals.
