  • Publication number: 20120134307
Abstract: A high rate radio frequency (RF) link system and method for spatially multiplexing data transmission is presented. The system can comprise a common communications point characterized by a first collection of antennas having independent channels interconnected with a known latency connection to a central process location, such as with optical fiber; and a second similarly configured collective endpoint or set of endpoints wherein multi-path between the first collection and the second collection is negligible. Signal decorrelation between independent channels is achieved through a combination of spatial separation and signal processing. In one aspect, decorrelation is performed using near-maximum likelihood Multiple-Input Multiple-Output signal processing.

  • Publication number: 20120136910
Abstract: A system, method and chip for transforming data through a Rung-Kutta integration of a single point on a plane defined by X, Y, and Z values along X, Y and Z axes from a travel time data volume. The system includes at least one memory bank and at least one alternate memory bank and at least one single cycle Runge-Kutta travel time generator in communication with the memory banks. The single cycle Runge-Kutta travel time generator reads data from the at least one memory bank, and transforms the data by performing a Runge-Kutta integration on points of a plane defined by X, Y, and Z values along X, Y and Z axes in a travel time data volume and slowness data to generate another plane of values with the integration carried forward by a half step; and writes the data back to the at least one alternate memory bank.

  • Publication number: 20120135486
Abstract: The present disclosure identifies methods and compositions for modifying photoautotrophic organisms as hosts, such that the organisms efficiently convert carbon dioxide and light into hydrocarbons, e.g., n-alkanes and n-alkenes, wherein the n-alkanes are secreted into the culture medium via recombinantly expressed transporter proteins. In particular, the use of such organisms for the commercial production of n-alkanes and related molecules is contemplated.

Abstract: A method for operating an oil control valve in an internal combustion engine is provided. The oil control valve controls a camshaft phaser disposed at an output side of the control valve and includes a spool disposed in a spool housing. The camshaft phaser controls the phase relationship between a crankshaft of the internal combustion engine and a camshaft of the internal combustion engine. The method includes positioning the spool within the spool housing to substantially block oil flow between the camshaft phaser and the internal combustion engine when the engine is temporarily not running.

  • Publication number: 20120134051
Abstract: As track densities increase, it becomes increasingly important, while writing in a given track, not to inadvertently write data in adjoining tracks. This problem has been overcome by limiting the width of material in the ABS plane to what it is at the write gap. The part of the lower pole that is wider than this is recessed back away from the ABS, thereby greatly reducing its magnetic influence on adjacent tracks. Four different embodiments of write heads that incorporate this notion are described together with a description of a general process for their manufacture.

  • Publication number: 20120137038
Abstract: Electronic systems supporting multiple operation modes are provided, wherein the electronic system includes a portable device and a docking system. The portable device at least includes one processing unit and a first operation module, wherein the processing unit includes a plurality of operation frequencies and is operable in a plurality of operation modes, and each operation mode corresponds to an operation frequency. The docking system includes a container for containing the portable device and a second operation module. When the portable device is plugged into the container of the docking system, the portable device receives a signal from the docking system, determines an operation mode of the portable device according to the received signal, adjusts the operation frequency of the processing unit corresponding to the operation mode and selectively applies the first modules or second modules to control the electronic system.

  • Publication number: 20120134261
Abstract: A payload switching architecture for LEO satellite networks minimizes processing and storage requirements of payloads for deployment as small primary or secondary payloads, payloads perform only forwarding functions. Forwarding rules are provisioned in the payloads enabling them to reroute in case of failures or congestion without intervention from a ground station. Configuration rules are provisioned in the payloads enabling them to dynamically establish and remove interplane crosslinks without intervention from a ground station. The central network operations center on the ground computes forwarding rules and configuration rules for payloads and uploads the rules to the payloads.
