Abstract: Spatio-temporal light field cameras that can be used to capture the light field within its spatio temporally extended angular extent. Such cameras can be used to record 3D images, 2D images that can be computationally focused, or wide angle panoramic 2D images with relatively high spatial and directional resolutions. The light field cameras can be also be used as 2D/3D switchable cameras with extended angular extent. The spatio-temporal aspects of the novel light field cameras allow them to capture and digitally record the intensity and color from multiple directional views within a wide angle. The inherent volumetric compactness of the light field cameras make it possible to embed in small mobile devices to capture either 3D images or computationally focusable 2D images. The inherent versatility of these light field cameras makes them suitable for multiple perspective light field capture for 3D movies and video recording applications.

Abstract: A multi-level non-volatile memory device programs cells in each row in a manner that takes into account the coupling from the programming of cells that are proximate the row to be programmed. In one example of the invention, after the row has been programmed, the proximate cells are verified by read, comparison, and, if necessary, reprogramming operations to compensate for charge added to proximate memory cells resulting from programming the row. In another example of the invention, a row of memory cells is programmed with charge levels that take into account the charge that will be added to the memory cells when proximate memory cells are subsequently programmed.

Abstract: Two-sided grills are provided having a positively controlled vertical gap between two opposed cooking surfaces, means for detecting initial contact of an upper cooking surface on a food item placed on a lower cooking surface, means for measuring the gap between the cooking surfaces at the initial contact position to determine a thickness of the food item and a food-item type, and a control system for automatically initiating a pre-programmed cooking routine based on the food-item type. The cooking routine includes varying the gap dimension between the platens while cooking the food item, the range or sequence of gap dimension variation being based on either the measured thickness of the food item or a nominal thickness associated with the identified food item type. In other aspect, grills according to the invention may include a lower platen mounted for vertical movement and an upper platen mounted only for pivoting.

Abstract: Techniques to enable an attendee device in an online conference session to view display content different from display content displayed on a host device. In one embodiment a method is provided in which display content that is to be shared with at least one attendee device in an online conference session is captured from a host device. An area containing blank space in the display content is identified. The display content is compacted by removing the area containing the blank space from the display content to obtain compacted content. The compacted content is composed to obtain a composed image configured to be shared with the attendee device, and the composed image is thereafter shared with the attendee device.

Abstract: Embodiments are provided for composing multidimensional keys for data blocks organized according to space filling curve approaches in database systems. An embodiment method includes organizing multidimensional data in a storage using a space filling curve algorithm. A plurality of data access paths for allowing access to the data are generated in a hierarchical index topology including an intermediate index page and a plurality of leaf pages. A plurality of odometer-type keys, which point to corresponding data blocks of the multidimensional data in the storage, are digitally composed in the leaf pages using bit clustering in a dimension-by-dimension manner of the multidimensional data. The odometer-type keys have numerical values that determine access to the data blocks according to the space filling curve algorithm. The composition of the odometer-type keys is independent of the numerical values of the odometer-type keys.

Abstract: In one embodiment, a physical device (e.g., packet switching device, computer, server) is booted using custom-created frozen partially-booted virtual machines, avoiding the time required for an end-to-end boot process. In one embodiment while the system is operating under a current version, a partially-booted virtual image of a new operating version for each of multiple processing elements of the device is produced according to static configuration information specific to the device, with each of these partially-booted virtual machines frozen. The device is rebooted to a fully operational device by unfreezing these partially-booted virtual machines, thus removing this portion of a boot process from the real-time booting of the device. The generation of the frozen partially-booted virtual machines is advantageously performed by the device itself based on current static configuration information and the availability of the specific hardware configuration of the device.

Abstract: Systems and methods for proactively establishing a third-party payment account for services rendered to a resident of a controlled-environment facility (“CEF”). A campaign-triggering event is detected, which triggers contact of prospective third-party (“3rd-party”) payers for a resident of a CEF in order to encourage such prospective 3rd-party payers to establish 3rd-party payment accounts for the resident. In this manner, the prospective 3rd-party payers are proactively contacted prior to an expected future demand for service by the resident. A method thus comprises identifying at least one prospective third-party payer for a resident of a controlled-environment facility, and proactively contacting the identified at least one prospective third-party payer prior to demand for service by the resident to encourage the identified at least one prospective third-party payer to establish a third-party payment account for payment for future service expected for the resident.
