  • Patent number: 8384396
Abstract: A system and method for determining loading of a filter having a first dielectric constant with a material having a different dielectric constant, is disclosed. The filter is contained within a metallic container forming a microwave cavity, and microwave or RF energy is created within the cavity and changes in the cavity microwave response are monitored. The changes in cavity microwave response are related to filter loading. In a preferred embodiment, the microwave energy includes multiple cavity modes thereby allowing determination of spatial distribution of the contaminant material loading. In one embodiment, the microwave cavity response includes a shift in frequency of a resonant mode. Alternatively, the microwave cavity response includes a shift in quality factor Q of a resonant mode. • Patent number: 8381836
Abstract: A boring tool that is moved by a drill string to form an underground bore. A transmitter transmits a time varying dipole field as a homing field from the boring tool. A pitch sensor detects a pitch orientation of the boring tool. A homing receiver is positionable at a target location for detecting the homing field to produce a set of flux measurements. A processing arrangement uses the pitch orientation and flux measurements with a determined length of the drill string to determine a vertical homing command for use in controlling depth in directing the boring tool to the target location such that the vertical homing command is generated with a particular accuracy at a given range between the transmitter and the homing receiver and which would otherwise be generated with the particular accuracy for a standard range, different from the particular range. An associated system and method are described.

  • Patent number: 8386755
Abstract: A microprocessor executes an instruction specifying a floating-point input operand having a predetermined size and that instructs the microprocessor to round the floating-point input operand to an integer value using a rounding mode and to return a floating-point result having the same predetermined size. An instruction translator translates the instruction into first and second microinstructions. An execution unit executes the first and second microinstructions. The first microinstruction receives as an input operand the instruction floating-point input operand and generates an intermediate result from the input operand. The second microinstruction receives as an input operand the intermediate result of the first microinstruction and generates the floating-point result of the instruction from the intermediate result. The intermediate result is the same predetermined size as the instruction floating-point input operand.

  • Patent number: 8384766
Abstract: A system is provided for processing a compressed image stream of a stereoscopic image stream, the compressed image stream having a plurality of frames in a first format, each frame consisting of a merged image comprising pixels sampled from a left image and pixels sampled from a right image. A receiver receives the compressed image stream and a decompressing module in communication with the receiver decompresses the compressed image stream. The left and right images of the decompressed image stream are stored in a frame buffer. A serializing unit reads pixels of the frames stored in the frame buffer and outputs a pixel stream comprising pixels of a left frame and pixels of a right frame. A stereoscopic image processor receives the pixel stream, buffers the pixels, performs interpolation in order to reconstruct pixels of the left and right images and outputs a reconstructed left pixel stream and a reconstructed right pixel stream, the reconstructed streams having a format different from the first format.

  • Patent number: 8386545
Abstract: A system which uses common adder circuitry to perform either one of a horizontal minimum instruction and a sum of absolute differences instruction including multiple adders, a sum circuit, a compare circuit, and a routing circuit. The input operands include multiple digital values which are delivered by the routing circuit to the adders depending upon which instruction is indicated. Each adder determines a difference between a pair of digital values. The differences are grouped and summed together by the sum circuit for the sum of absolute differences instruction. The adders are paired together for the horizontal minimum instruction, in which each pair provides carry and propagate outputs. The upper portions of a pair of digital values are compared by the upper adder and the lower portions are compared by the lower adder, and the carry and propagate outputs are collectively used to determine the minimum value.

  • Patent number: 8386886
Abstract: Methods, apparatuses and systems are disclosed for preserving, verifying, and correcting data in DRAM device during a power-saving mode. In the power-saving mode, memory cells in the DRAM device may be refreshed using a self-refresh operation. This self-refresh operation may allow bit errors to occur in the DRAM device. However, by employing error correction coding (ECC), embodiments of the present invention may detect and correct these potential errors that may occur in the power-saving mode. Furthermore, a partial ECC check cycle is employed to check and correct a sub-set of the memory cells during a periodic self-refresh process that occurs during the power-saving mode.
