Abstract: In an adaptive steaming system, a media server for performing adaptive streaming on media contents sends to a client device a media presentation description (MPD) file including information specifying streaming adaptation parameters. The media server receives a request from the client device. The request includes a data object location indicator and a query string containing at least one of the values of the streaming adaptation parameters. After receiving the request, the media server selects a data object to be returned to the client device based on at least one of the data object location indicator and the query string and sends a response with the data object to the client device.

Abstract: A probabilistic data structure is generated for efficient query processing using a histogram for unsorted data in a column of a columnar database. A bucket range size is determined for multiples buckets of a histogram of a column in a columnar database table. In at least some embodiments, the histogram may be a height-balanced histogram. A probabilistic data structure is generated to indicate for which particular buckets in the histogram there is a data value stored in the data block. When an indication of a query directed to the column for select data is received, the probabilistic data structure for each of the data blocks storing data for the column may be examined to determine particular ones of the data blocks which do not need to be read in order to service the query for the select data.

  • Publication number: 20140198549
Abstract: An energy dissipating device configured to connect to a power supply and to dissipate excess energy from a direct current (DC) rail in response to a change in power supply settings or operating characteristics. The energy dissipating device is connected to the DC rail, which conducts current generated by an AC/DC converter to at least one DC/DC converter. When power demand to the DC/DC converter is reduced, the DC/DC converter generates a supplemental current surge on the DC rail. A rail current monitor monitors the current level on the DC rail and generates the DC rail power signal indicative of the supplemental current surge level generated by the at least one DC/DC converter. The supplemental surge current is used to control dissipative elements connected across the DC rail to modulate a current sink path across the DC rail to dissipate the excess energy from the DC rail.

Abstract: A reducing machine having an air cooled cutting discs is disclosed. The air cooled discs have cutting surfaces on both sides. The cutting surfaces have edges which are sharpened for cutting input material when the cutting surface is facing the cutting surface of the opposed disc. When the cutting surface of the stationary disc is facing the housing, the cutting surface acts as a heat sink to air cool the stationary disc and the mill assembly in general. Air inlets in the housing lid permit air to flow over the cooling surface. A damper restricts air flow over the air cooling surface to control the temperature of the reducing machine, such as during start up.

Abstract: A radio frequency identification (RFID) tag reading system having a phased antenna array accurately locates RFID tags in a controlled area, by steering an interrogating beam over the controlled area to interrogate the tags and generate return modulated RF signals. A primary receiver steers a primary receive beam at a primary steering angle that is fixed during each tag interrogation. A primary demodulator demodulates and reconstructs the received return modulated signals. A secondary receiver, independently of the primary receiver, steers a secondary receive beam at a plurality of secondary steering angles. A secondary correlator/demodulator demodulates the combined return modulated signals, and utilizes the reconstructed signal reconstructed by the primary demodulator at each of the secondary steering angles. Both the primary and the secondary receivers cooperate to accurately locate the same tag.
