Abstract: A resorbable tissue scaffold in a glass ceramic composition forms a rigid three-dimensional porous matrix having a bioactive composition. Porosity in the form of interconnected pore space is provided by the space between the glass-ceramic fiber forming the porous matrix. Strength of the porous matrix is provided by the interconnected and bonded fiber that fuses into the rigid three-dimensional matrix. The resorbable tissue scaffold supports tissue ingrowth when implanted as a device for the repair of damaged and/or diseased bone tissue.

Abstract: A system is provided for precoding in a coordinated multipoint (CoMP) joint transmission (JT) system. During operation, the system identifies, at a first base station (BS) of a first cell, a set of regular user equipments (UEs), which are located within the first cell and receive signals from the first BS; and one or more coordinated multipoint (CoMP) UEs, which are located within a second cell and receive signals. The CoMP UEs receive signals from both the first BS and a second BS of the second cell. The system obtains a first channel state information (CSI) associated with the regular UEs, receives a second CSI associated with the CoMP UEs from the second BS, and constructs a local precoder for the first cell in accordance with the first CSI and the second CSI.

Abstract: A method for optimizing uplink power control settings in a wireless network, the method comprising generating a first gene pool comprising a set of parent genes, wherein each parent gene comprises a set of first generation power control solutions for a set of base stations in the wireless network. The method may further include performing natural selection on the first gene pool to generate a second gene pool comprising selected ones of the set of parent genes, wherein the selected parent genes are chosen by probabilistically selecting some of the parent genes based on fitness values assigned to the parent genes. The method may further include evolving the second gene pool into a descendent gene, wherein the descendent gene comprises a set of local power control solutions for the set of base station in the wireless network.

Abstract: A sampling circuit for dynamic imaging is provided. Specifically, embodiments of the present invention relate to a readout integrated circuit (ROIC) for dynamic imaging and a related image sensor. In one embodiment of the present invention, a sampling circuit is provided that comprises: an amplifier circuit, which amplifies charge signals generated at photo diodes and converts them to voltage signals; a filter circuit (optional) that receives and filters the voltage signals to yield a filtered signal; a sampling circuit, which samples the voltage signals and outputs a sampled signal in accordance with a sampling control signal; and a digital converter, which converts the sampled signal into a digital format and outputs a digital signal.

An isolation trench is formed in the front surface of the substrate adjacent to the photosensitive region. The isolation trench includes a trench having a bottom and sidewalls, a passivation layer formed on the bottom and the sidewalls, and a filler to fill the portion of the trench not filled by the passivation layer.

Abstract: Systems, apparatuses, kits, and methods for purification and analysis of analytes having a broad range of hydrophobicities by liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS). Using one set of liquid chromatography columns, one set of mobile phase buffers, and, optionally, a single ionization method (e.g., electrospray ionization), a wide range of analytes can be purified and analyzed on a liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS) system. LC-MS purification and analysis of analytes having a broad range of partition coefficients is accomplished by selecting LC run parameters and MS system parameters that are particular to different classes of analytes without having to make column or buffer changes or any other hardware configuration changes to the LC-MS system.

Abstract: An approach for a sampling circuit to reduce noise in signals (e.g., as received from photo diodes or the like) is provided. In one embodiment of the present invention, there is a sampling circuit comprising: an amplifier, which amplifies charge signals generated at photo diodes and converts them to voltage signals; the first sample and hold circuit, which samples the voltage signal and charges the first capacitor according to the first switching signal, and outputs the stored charge as a reset signal based on a readout signal; the second sample and hold circuit, which samples the signals and charges the second capacitor according to the second switching signal that is non-overlapping to the first switching signal, and outputs the stored charge as a reset signal based on the readout signal; a resistor that acts as a low-pass filter placed in between the first and the second capacitors' common nodes.

The medical device can be a stimulating apparatus used to deliver electrical stimulation to a peripheral, central or autonomic neural structure. More specifically, the medical device can be a neurostimulator apparatus designed to delivery electrical stimulation to the sphenopalatine ganglion (SPG) to treat primary headaches, such as migraines, cluster headaches and/or many other neurological disorders, such as atypical facial pain and/or trigeminal neuralgias.

Abstract: A mobile device management system stores network parameters so that certain functionality can be disabled or placed in sleep mode to optimize and lengthen battery life. The mobile device analyzes its user calendar schedule to download navigation data and network parameters so that tasks such as downloading information and updates are performed during times that the mobile device is connected to lower cost network access such as WiFi networks. By performing tasks such as the downloading of information based on availability of low cost network resources, the battery life of the mobile device may be lengthened. By storing network parameters such as the location of dead zones and roaming zones, the constant pinging of the RF baseband chip can be disabled and only enabled when the mobile device knows it is close to an areas where the mobile device must switch networks, further reducing power consumption.

A plurality of solid-state switches control three phases of the motor in response to the three duty cycle values, respectively. The pulse skip determination module generates a pulse skip signal. The duty cycle adjustment module selectively prevents the plurality of solid-state switches from switching during intervals specified by the pulse skip signal.

Abstract: Method and system for treating a patient using a compressible, pressure-attenuating device. According to one embodiment, the system is used to treat urinary tract disorders and can include one or more of an access device, a delivery device, a pressure-attenuating device, and a removal device. The access device may be used to create a passageway to an anatomical structure, such as the patient's bladder. The delivery device may be inserted through the passageway created by the access device and may be used to deliver the pressure-attenuating device to the anatomical structure. The removal device may be inserted through the passageway created by the access device and may be used to view the bladder and/or to capture, to deflate and to remove the pressure-attenuating device.
