    Abstract: A fiber optic cable conducts optical fiber to downhole gauges in a wellbore. Cable connections are used to protect splicing of the optical fiber between cable sections and the gauges. The cable connection includes adjoining tubes, which have passages for the optical fiber. The tubes are nested together and enclose the splicing of the optical fiber. A cable-end tube is affixed to a section of the cable with the passage overlaying a jacket of the cable, and a gauge-end tube is affixed to an end of the downhole gauge with the passage overlaying the end of the downhole gauge. At least one spanning tube has ends that are affixed nested inside the passages of the adjoining ones of the tubes. The cable connections allow the cable and gauges to be wound on a spool or reel for installing into the wellbore.

The second node also is provisioned with the same one or more security profiles, authenticates the first node based on a same security profile as is used to authenticate the second node, and encrypts the communication session based on the same security profile as is used for encryption by the first node.

    Abstract: A two-transistor forward switching cell includes two primary switching elements connected between an input voltage source and a primary winding of a transformer. The switching elements are connected to the primary winding at opposite ends of the winding. Reset diodes are connected between one of the opposite ends of the primary winding and one termination of the voltage source, and between another of the opposite ends of the primary winding and another termination of the voltage source. The transformer has at least a secondary winding connected to drains of synchronous rectifiers. One of the rectifiers is on during at least a portion of a time when the switching elements are on. The other of the rectifiers is a freewheeling rectifier, is connected to at least one controlled current source, and is off when the switching elements are on. Both rectifiers are on for a common predetermined time.

    Abstract: A cementing operation cements casing in a borehole. A bottom plug pumped down the casing ahead of cement lands at a float valve. Circulation of the cement is established through the bottom plug to a shoe track downhole from the float valve. A top plug pumped down the casing behind the cement lands on the bottom plug. An internal component of the float valve is released by building-up pressure in the casing behind the internal component up to a release threshold. The internal component can latch at the shoe. At least some of the cement in the shoe track is displaced from the casing's shoe to the borehole by pumping the plugs and the internal component to the shoe. With the cement displaced out of the shoe track, the time required to drill out the assembly can be greatly reduced.

If the battery model is not calibrated/validated, errors in the battery model may propagate through the modeled response of the battery to the operation of the battery control system. A calibration current pulse may result in a different measured response of the battery than the modeled response of the battery to the same calibration current pulse. A validation technique, which uses a difference between the modeled response and the measured response of the battery to the calibration current pulse as a method to calibrate the battery model, may protect the battery control system from the contribution of errors from an uncalibrated battery model.

    Abstract: A switching power conversion apparatus for converting power from an input voltage source to a load includes first and second switches connected to a switching node. An inductive element has a magnetizing current connected to the node, and the inductive element is connected to deliver energy via the first and second switches from the input voltage to the load during a succession of power conversion cycles. A capacitance connected to the node resonates with the inductive element to cause parasitic oscillation. A clamp subcircuit across the inductive element contains an auxiliary switch to trap energy and prevent parasitic oscillation, wherein the auxiliary switch is complementary to the first switch. A controlled voltage source injects energy in the inductive element, when the auxiliary switch turns off to discharge the parasitic capacitance by using trapped energy in the inductive element in addition to injected energy from the controlled voltage source.

    Abstract: A downhole tool, such an interval control valve, for use in a well has multiple motors and two drive assemblies to displace a yoke. A member, such as a sliding sleeve, of the downhole tool is connected to the yoke and can be actuated in response to the displacement of the yoke. The drive assemblies include first and second rotatable screws, and the yoke is disposed on the screws. Each motor can produce drive to rotate a respective screw. A respective gear is rotatable in association with at least the rotation of its associated screw. An intermediate gear is engaged between these two gears. The intermediate gear interconnects the rotation of the two screws forcing them to rotate at the same speed. Likewise, the intermediate gear balances the drive of the motors forcing the two screws to rotate at the same speed.
