Abstract: A system and/or method for displaying television advertisements based on users' demographic data is provided, and, in certain example embodiments, a system and/or method is provided for matching a user with a predefined category from a plurality of predefined categories based on collected demographic data. In certain example embodiments, custom categories are defined and demographic data for potential consumers is collected. Users or potential consumers are matched to at least one category based on the collected demographic data. Based at least partially on such matching, appropriately targeted advertisements are sent to consumers during breaks in the primary content (e.g., during breaks in a primary television show such as a sporting event or soap opera).

  • Publication number: 20070112705
Abstract: A system and method for enabling an airborne communication system when a natural disaster is detected, or when it is detected that an occurrence of a natural disaster is imminent or likely, is provided. In certain example embodiments, a natural disaster detector monitors, for example, various climatic indicators to determine whether a natural disaster is about to occur, is currently occurring, or has just occurred. An elevation device or system with an attached communication component(s) may elevate before, during, or after the natural disaster, depending on the example embodiment. Once the communication component is airborne, the communication system will create or restore a particular communication channel. In other example embodiments, a plurality of elevation devices, each with their own associated communication components may be elevated to facilitate a node-like implementation.

  • Publication number: 20070012106
Abstract: In certain example embodiments there is provided a method and/or system for operating an aircraft, including (a) before an aircraft is loaded with passengers and luggage, performing a first measuring to measure a load on front landing gear strut(s) and rear landing gear strut(s) in order to obtain first weight data; and (b) after the aircraft has been loaded with passengers and luggage, performing a second measuring to measure a load on front landing gear strut(s) and rear landing gear strut(s) in order to obtain second weight data. Then, the first weight data is subtracted from the second weight data, while optionally compensating for fuel added to the aircraft between the times of the first and second measuring steps, in order to determine a total weight of the passengers and luggage on the aircraft. This total weight can be used in determining whether or not the plane is overloaded.

  • Patent number: 6960983
Abstract: A global paging system and corresponding method are disclosed in which an originating user pages a receiving user in a different country without the paging message being broadcast in all areas. According to certain embodiments, the originating user E-mails a web site or server of the paging system paging information, with the server then transmitting the paging message over a packet-switched digital data network (e.g. the Internet) to a receiving or terminating web site or server located in the different country. In certain embodiments, the receiving user remotely inputs a designated country into the paging system so that when the receiving user is paged, the paging system first pages the receiving user in the designated country or area without broadcasting the paging message in other countries or areas.

  • Patent number: 6732022
Abstract: A system and/or method is/are provided which reduces the likelihood of air vehicles being utilized by terrorists as weapons. In certain embodiments, when it is determined that the air vehicle is about to hit a designated structure (e.g., high-rise office building or apartment building, national monument, and/or government building), a controller automatically takes control of the air vehicle away from the pilot(s) and causes an automatic computerized pilot (auto-pilot) to take over control of the air vehicle and causes it to land at a selected airport and/or runway.

  • Patent number: 6666401
Abstract: A missile defense system includes a tracking station for monitoring the course and/or trajectory of an incoming missile. The incoming missile course and/or trajectory information is communicated to an intercept missile, whose course and/or trajectory are calculated based on the information of the incoming missile received from the tracking system and the intercept missile location received from, for example, a GPS system. The tracking system monitors the flight of the incoming missile to determine any changes to its course and/or trajectory, and communicates these changes to the intercept missile. The intercept missile adjusts its course and/or trajectory based on the updated information received from the tracking station to provide accurate and reliable intercept of the incoming missile.

  • Patent number: 6223461
Abstract: A safety system and method for remotely activating and/or deactivating firearm(s). In certain embodiments, at least one processor or chip may be provided in the firearm. In order to remotely activate a firearm and allow it to be discharged, a controller (located remotely from the firearm) causes an activation signal to be sent to a satellite. The satellite redirects the activation signal toward a particular geographical area. When the firearm to be activated is in that geographical area, it receives the activation signal from the satellite. Upon determining that a match is found between a code in the received activation signal and a predetermined activation code stored in a memory of the firearm, the processor in the firearm causes a trigger lock in the firearm to open thereby enabling the firearm to be discharged whenever a user should decide to load the weapon and pull the trigger.

  • Patent number: 6208040
Abstract: A customer side power management system including at least one auxiliary fuel cell(s) source is provided. When the power derived from the electric utility reaches a predetermined threshold level, all remaining power needed to supply the customer's loads is obtained from the at least one hydrocarbon powered fuel cell which is/are located within the customer's facility. In such a manner, high peak demand utility charges are avoided by the customer, and the simple cost effective power generation from the fuel cell is provided.

  • Patent number: 6011991
Abstract: A system and method for enabling human beings to communicate by way of their monitored brain activity. The brain activity of an individual is monitored and transmitted to a remote location (e.g. by satellite). At the remote location, the monitored brain activity is compared with pre-recorded normalized brain activity curves, waveforms, or patterns to determine if a match or substantial match is found. If such a match is found, then the computer at the remote location determines that the individual was attempting to communicate the word, phrase, or thought corresponding to the matched stored normalized signal.
