    Abstract: The present invention is directed to a low cost and high yield synthetic method of producing large quantity and homogenous metal nanoparticles, which are capped by both hydrophilic and hydrophobic surfactants and soluble in water, water-miscible solvents, and non-polar solvents. The solubility of metal nanoparticles in different solvents can be controlled by simply changing the ratio of hydrophilic and hydrophobic surfactants.

An aqueous foam dispersion containing metal nanoparticles can form a transparent film by spontaneous self-assembly, which becomes conductive after sintering. The foam formulation contains mainly water without any toxic organic solvent.
