Abstract: A steroid compound represented by the formula ##STR1## which has an excellent aromatase-inhibiting effect and is useful for preventing or treating diseases caused by estrogens, such as breast cancer, uterine cancer and prostatomegaly. This compound has an oxygen or nitrogen atom as the heteroatom at the position A of the ring D and the 7-position (substituent R.sup.1) of the skeleton is substituted by --S--R.sup.2 (wherein R.sup.2 represents hydrogen, lower alkyl which may be substituted by hydroxy, amino or lower alkoxycarbonyl, lower alkenyl, aralkyl, aryl which may be substituted by halogen, amino, di(lower alkyl)amino, lower alkoxy or lower alkyl, acyl, or lower alkoxycarbonyl), --S(O)m--R.sub.3 (wherein R.sup.3 represents lower alkyl; and m represents 1 or 2), or aralkyl.

Abstract: Compounds are described having the formula ##STR1## wherein A denotes C.dbd.O, CH.sub.2, C.dbd.CH.sub.2 or C.dbd.CH-lower alkyl;B denotes O, NH or N-lower alkyl;X does not exist, or denotes C.dbd.O or CH.sub.2 ;n denotes 2 or 3 when X does not exist, or denotes 1 or 2 when X denotes C.dbd.O or CH.sub.2 ; andthe broken line between the 1- and 2-positions of the steroid skeleton means that a double bond may optionally exist there. These compounds have an aromatase inhibition action and are useful for prophylaxis or treatment of diseases caused by excess of estrogens, for example, breast cancer, uterine cancer, prostatic hypertrophy, etc.

Abstract: A benzothiophene derivative represented by the formula ##STR1## or a salt thereof has an excellent antiestrogenic activity, and is useful as a therapeutic agent of breast cancer, endometrial cancer, endometriosis, mastopathy, etc.This compound is characterized in that the 2-position (the substituent R.sup.2) of the benzothiophene nucleus is substituted by a halogen atom; a lower alkyl group; or a cycloalkyl or cycloalkenyl group optionally substituted by a lower alkyl group, a hydroxyl group, acyloxy group or an oxo group.

Abstract: An estrogen-containing gel preparation is disclosed, which comprises a substrate having on one surface thereof a crosslinked gel layer formed by crosslinking a composition comprising the following ingredients (a) to (c), the weight ratio of the ingredient (b) to the ingredient (c) being from 1.0/0.25 to 1.0/2.0:(a) estrogen;(b) an acrylate polymer; and(c) a liquid ingredient compatible with the ingredient (b).

Abstract: A compound of the formula ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1 is a hydrogen atom or a methoxy group, and A is a C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkylene group, or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof. This compound is useful as a medicine, particularly as a lipoxygenase inhibitor for polyunsaturated fatty acids.

Abstract: A pyridazinone derivative represented by the following general formula ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1 represents a hydrogen atom or a methyl group, either one of R.sub.2, R.sub.3 and R.sub.4 represents a hydrogen atom and the remaining two of them represent a lower alkyl group, a trifluoromethyl group, a halogen atom, a cyano group or a nitro group, and a salt thereof. The compounds are useful as antihypertensive agents.

Abstract: An apparatus for vibrating the ulna in vivo includes a main post provided upright on a base stand, and a horizontally extending upper arm secured to the upper part of the main post for vertical movement. The apparatus also includes a plate for fixing the back of the hand; the plate is secured to the end of the upper arm for free movement at an arbitrary angle of inclination. A lower arm which is secured for vertical movement to the lower part of the main post and extending in the same horizontal direction as the upper arm is also provided. In addition, an excitor is mounted on the lower arm for sliding movement in the axial direction of the lower arm and in a horizontal direction perpendicular thereto, and a brachium resting plate is fixed ahead of the excitor.

Abstract: A process for the preparation of 1-aryloxy-3-aminopropane derivatives and acid addition salts thereof and such products per se the process comprising ring opening of tertiary azetidinol derivatives. They possess .beta.-adrenergic blocking activity and an activity of controlling secretion of gastric juice and are therefore useful antiulcerative medicines for peptic ulcer and duodenal ulcer.

Abstract: Novel immunochemical assay reagents comprising combinations of (A) a carboxyl-containing water-soluble mono-olefinic polymeric compound combined with a hapten or its chemically modified product, or a hapten-supported latex resulting from the chemical linking of the hapten-bound polymeric compound to a polymeric latex, with (B) a hapten antibody, or a hapten antibody-supported carrier; and a method for immunochemically determining haptens by using the aforesaid reagent. This reagent is very stable and can be stored for an extended period of time without degradation. It enables transition from an agglutination inhibited pattern to an agglutinated pattern to be discerned clearly and rapidly with high sensitivity.
