    Abstract: A media-independent handover key management architecture is disclosed that uses Kerberos for secure key distribution among a server, an authenticator, and a mobile node. In the preferred embodiments, signaling for key distribution is based on re-keying and is decoupled from re-authentication that requires EAP (Extensible Authentication Protocol) and AAA (Authentication, Authorization and Accounting) signaling similar to initial network access authentication. In this framework, the mobile node is able to obtain master session keys required for dynamically establishing the security associations with a set of authenticators without communicating with them before handover. By separating re-key operation from re-authentication, the proposed architecture is more optimized for a proactive mode of operation. It can also be optimized for reactive mode of operation by reversing the key distribution roles between the mobile node and the target access node.

In some embodiments, a system for facilitating handover of a mobile device across heterogeneous access networks by ensuring response to queries transmitted by the mobile device includes: a) a mobile device having a plurality of wireless network interfaces for communicating over a plurality of heterogeneous access networks, having a media independent handover (MIH) entity to facilitate handovers between the heterogeneous networks, and configured to transmit queries related to handover operation between the heterogeneous access networks to MIH entities within said heterogeneous access networks; and b) said media independent handover entity of said mobile device being configured to transmit multiple queries in a single message exchange to an MIH entity in an access network with prioritization among said multiple queries.

    Abstract: A system and method for automatic fault detection of a machine is described. In one embodiment, a semantic structure is constructed using the words and values associated with the parameter identification numbers used by the on-board diagnostic system in a vehicle. The semantic structure is enhanced, analyzed, and reduced to determine the number and arrangement of the clusters that should be independently analyzed in order to produce the most reliable results in a computationally efficient manner. Each cluster is then used to detect outliers that are used to detect vehicle malfunctions.

    Abstract: An adaptive wireless multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) system switches among two or more modes of operation including Uninformed Transmitter (UT) and Informed Transmitter (IT) modes based on channel conditions as reflected in a set of metrics including a temporal selectivity metric (TSM) indicative of the temporal dynamics of the MIMO channel. In an exemplary embodiment, the adaptive MIMO system uses a dominant eigenmode IT mode of operation if a signal-to-noise ratio is below a threshold, otherwise, the system uses an IT mode or a UT mode based on the TSM. If the TSM indicates a channel that is changing too rapidly for feedback to be effective, the UT mode is used, otherwise the IT mode is used. Overall system capacity in time varying MIMO channels is thereby improved.

The wireless communications device determines a transmission power level maximum based on the received signal and then transmits a signal to the access point at a transmission power level at or below the transmission power level maximum. The wireless communications device disables the transmission when the signal strength falls below the predetermined threshold.

    Abstract: Reliable transferring of data between mobile wireless nodes positioned at two points in a wireless network occurs through the dynamic formation of transmit/receive groups that collectively establish reliable communications. A mobile node at each point creates a neighbor list by periodically probing its surroundings to discover nearby nodes with which it can relaibly communicate. Prior to establishing a route or transmitting data, a node A first probes a distant next point in the network to determine if it can reliably communicate with that point. Upon receiving this probe and knowing one's neighbors, the nodes at this distant point dynamically form a receive group and choose a controlling node. Members of the group individually receive all future data from node A and pass the received data to the controlling node, which combines the individual signals for reliable reception.

    Abstract: Crosstalk between subscriber loops used to transmit different broadband services through the same bundled telephone cable is a significant limitation to providing digital subscriber line services. A method for estimating the crosstalk, identifying the sources of the crosstalk and predicting additional sources of crosstalk are disclosed. The crosstalk sources are identified in the frequency domain by maximizing the correlation with a “basis set” of received crosstalk PSDs which consist of the cascade of a finite set of known transmit PSDs types times a representative set of crosstalk couplings. Multiple crosstalk types are identified with a technique of successive spectral subtraction. Once a type is identified the crosstalk disturber is compared against all other members of the complete set for that type. Additionally, Mutliple Regression (MR) techniques and a Matching Pursuit (MP) algorithm are used to increase the ability of the system and method to identify various crosstalk disturbers.

    Abstract: An edge-emitting laser formed in an opto-electronic chip and having an emission wavelength determined by dielectric interference filter formed on opposing facets between which said laser extends. The two interference filter are each respective Fabry-Perot etalon filters having two interference mirrors sandwiching a resonant dielectric cavity layer so that the filter manifests a flat reflectance spectrum with a deep reflectance notch in its center. The two filters are fabricated with wavelengths of their notches differing by about 2%. The sum of the two filter transmittances represents round-trip cavity loss and has a double-peaked shape with a sharp minimum between the two notch wavelengths. The wavelength of the sum minimum determines the lasing wavelength without the need for a Bragg grating being incorporated within the chip. The invention can be applied to multi-wavelength edge-emitting lasers including multiple laser stripes by applying filters of different wavelengths to the ends of different stripes.

    Abstract: A method and system identify in a database one or more data entries that are the nearest neighbors of a query. The database prebuilds a first set of strings by probabilistically selecting values of respective bits in each of the first set of strings based on a probability that depends on a first hamming distance. Based on the first set of strings, the database predetermines the trace values of each data entry in the database, respectively, and stores the predetermined trace values as entries in a trace table. For each trace value entry, the database identifies the data entries whose trace values are within a second hamming distance of the trace value entry, and stores the addresses of the identified data entries in the trace value entry. When the database receives a query, by identifying the trace value entry in the trace table that match the trace value of the query, the database identifies the data entries that are within the first hamming distance of the query.

Using the method and system of the present invention, the user will first input information as rules relating to the business logic of the system. After obtaining the business logic, the system will transform input test cases into output test cases for the Year 2000 compliance testing. The term test cases, used in a broad sense here, refer to regression test cases written in any test automation languages, archive of test input/output data files, or snap shots of transactions captured using a recording tool. The system operates by first parsing the input files and based upon the business logic, it identifies date, time, or duration dependent variables or constants ("date dependent fields" collectively) in the input test cases. The system then substitutes risky dates, time, or duration for these fields in a manner which preserves the business logic.

    Abstract: An anchor RS acts as the single interface between the switched telephone network and the wireless communications system throughout an entire call, even if the subscriber unit travels to different radio systems during the call. This allows (1) the signaling to set up the connections between the anchor and target RPCUs; and (2) the maintenance information for the call to remain in the anchor RPCU, which is connected to the original switch. This avoids tying up network switches with exchanging signals and call maintenance information about service features, thus resulting in a substantial "savings" in valuable telephone network resources. Also, existing switches do not need to be replaced or reconfigured to accommodate this hand over method.
