    Abstract: To reduce and/or guarantee the round-trip delay of interactive processes, cooperative scheduling in forward and backward direction is proposed. In practice, a basic idea is to estimate the delay of packets of different users during network-based scheduling of packets in forward direction. During scheduling of packets in backward direction, packets of those users having larger delay in forward direction are given higher priority based on the estimated delay. In this way the total round-trip delay can be reduced and/or even guaranteed. This means that more users will be satisfied and experience faster connections to services.

    Abstract: Aspects of a high-precision packet train generation process are distributed among several distinct processing elements. In some embodiments a control processor configures a packet-processing unit with a packet train context that includes details such as the number of packets to be generated and the headers to be included in the packets. The packet-processing unit takes a packet to be used in the packet train and recirculates it a number of times, as specified by the packet train context. The recirculated packets, with the appropriate headers inserted, are forwarded to a traffic-shaping queue in queuing hardware. The traffic-shaping queue is configured to output the forwarded packets with a constant inter-packet gap. Thus, the generation of the multiple packets in the packet train is handled by the packet-processing unit, while the precise inter-packet timing is provided by the traffic-shaping queue in the queuing hardware.

    Abstract: A user equipment (UE) in a communication system can keep track of the cell/frequency deployment of a network operator preferred by the user, and based on the tracked information, the UE can build up its own user-specific Neighbor Cell List. When the UE is roaming, the UE does received-signal measurements according to cells and carrier frequencies identified in the broadcast Neighbor Cell Lists of the roamed-into network, but the UE also does received-signal measurements (with higher priority) according to the user-specific Neighbor Cell List that it has built up. Accordingly, a UE implementing a user-specific Neighbor Cell List analyzes its radio environment based on received signals and stores information about that environment, including user-preference information that prioritizes cells in the radio environment. The UE can then carry out cell search based on the stored environment and user-preference information.
