Publication number: 20080039115Abstract: A cellphone Presence and Locating system includes antenna(s) with associated receiver(s) extracting user information, presence and location data from a plurality of mobile cellphones with a Subscriber Identity Module (SIM) card containing a low duty cycle transmitter. The transmitter communicates with the SIM processor and extracts user and configuration information. The transmitter broadcast messages containing selected SIM and other information at intervals or on demand. These transmissions are processed by a receiving station, and additional information such as signal strength, time of arrival and direction is extracted. This data is used to determine local presence or a more accurate location within the coverage area and is added to the specific SIM information before being passed on to an information processing server. The information processing server selects relevant prestored files and delivers these to the originating cellphone via a mobile communication network.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 2, 2005Publication date: February 14, 2008Applicant: Telenor ASAInventors: Hans-Christian Haugli, Berit Svendsen

Publication number: 20070206619Abstract: In asynchronous optical packet switches, scheduling packets from a buffer randomly will cause less efficient utilization of the buffer. Additionally, reordering of packets may cause problems for service quality demanding applications. According to the present invention a new electronic buffer scheduling algorithm is proposed and a switch utilizing this algorithm is disclosed. The algorithm is designed for utilizing the buffer resources efficiently, still avoiding serious packet reordering.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 20, 2005Publication date: September 6, 2007Applicant: TELENOR ASAInventor: Steinar Bjornstad

Patent number: 7024226Abstract: A method for enabling at least a part of a Smart Card (e.g. SIM card) is described where a one time activation code is generated in a server at a telephone operator. The activation code is sent via registered mail to a Smart Card user, in a cellular phone. When the user enters the activation code into the phone, the entry is transmitted to the server for verification. Upon successful verification, the server transmits an enabling command to the phone, thus enabling the intended part of the SIM card. This may enable PKI functionalities until now hidden in the SIM card and thus unavailable for the user. The user may then choose his signing PIN for authentication, encryption and transaction signing. In case of enabling PKI functions, all necessary generation of private and public keys and establishment of certifications are carried through when the activation code is verified.Type: GrantFiled: January 23, 2002Date of Patent: April 4, 2006Assignee: Telenor ASAInventors: Leif Sandberg, Kjell Rodberg-Larsen

Patent number: 6760129Abstract: A method and apparatus for compressing facsimile documents based on arithmetic coding. A combination of one-dimensional and two-dimensional arithmetic coding is employed to ensure that the effect of a transmission error is not propagated to the whole document. Patent number: 6735393Abstract: An optical network, which may be an all-optical network, including passive wavelength routers is described. Methods for implementing such networks as well as different router configurations which may be used in optical networks are also disclosed. The routing functionality in the all-optical network can be done in the optical domain without switching elements at the nodes. This is achieved by routers which are passive and preferably operative to route wavelength bands. A mesh can be used as the network configuration. The optical networks described can be used to facilitate the transmission of higher network protocols, such as internet protocol (IP) packets or ATM-cells, purely in the optical domain.Type: GrantFiled: September 22, 2000Date of Patent: May 11, 2004Assignee: Telenor, ASInventor: Paraskevi Zouganeli

Patent number: 6456399Abstract: In a facsimile system, buffer underflow is prevented by forcing the transmit pointer to wait at a current end-of-line (EOL) symbol and transmit fill bits until there are at least two EOL symbols stored in the buffer. Buffer overflow is controlled by selectively dropping lines if the write pointer approaches too close to the transmit pointer and the difference between successive lines is sufficiently small (selective line-dropping), dropping lines whenever a permitted maximum buffer size is exceeded, and gradually changing the permitted distance between transmit and write pointers and permitted maximum buffer size as the image is scanned to accomplish a smooth buffer flushing.Type: GrantFiled: February 25, 1998Date of Patent: September 24, 2002Assignee: Telenor Satellite Services, Inc.Inventors: Grant I. Patent number: 6044370Abstract: In a database management system (DBMS) or other data processing system or product that stores and processes information, a subset of the stored information is stored as annotated values. Each annotated value has a stored data value and an associated data reliability value, where the data reliability value is a member of a domain that includes at least three distinct data reliability values corresponding to at least three distinct data reliability classifications that can apply to the annotated values stored in the database. Typically, one of the data reliability classifications represents fully reliable data and at least two of the distinct data reliability classifications represent two distinct classifications of missing data or less than fully reliable data. A query executer or other data processing procedure executes queries requesting access to information stored in the database (or other data processing tasks).Type: GrantFiled: January 26, 1998Date of Patent: March 28, 2000Assignee: Telenor ASInventor: Ole J.o slashed.rgen Anfindsen

Patent number: 5990961Abstract: In a digital picture video signal compression encoding process for transmitting such signals via a narrowband transmission medium, two or more pictures are co-encoded by encoding/decoding blocks having the same picture position, together. First, the block of the last picture is encoded/decoded, and thereafter the decoded result in this block is used as a prediction for the remaining blocks, together with information from previously decoded pictures. Preferably one single shift/movement vector is used in order to indicate a prediction for several blocks. In addition, transform coefficients representing difference signals to be transmitted, are interwoven from the blocks to be co-encoded, so that the transmission format for transforming coefficients will be the same as when encoding/decoding one block.Type: GrantFiled: June 5, 1997Date of Patent: November 23, 1999Assignee: Telenor ASInventor: Gisle Bjontegaard

Patent number: 5983225Abstract: A database management system (DBMS) is modified to provide improved concurrent usage of database objects, particularly when the system is executing long lived transactions. A subset of the transactions access database objects using parameterized read and parameterized write access modes. Each transaction using a parameterized write mode of access for a database object specifies a write access mode, and a write access mode parameter, where the parameter indicates a data reliability classification. Each transaction using a parameterized read mode of access for a database object specifies a read access mode, and a read access mode parameter, where the parameter indicates one or more reliability classifications that are acceptable to the transaction. Whenever a transaction requests access to a specified database object, the DBMS generates a corresponding lock request for the object. If the lock request is a parameterized lock request, a corresponding parameterized lock request is generated.Type: GrantFiled: January 26, 1998Date of Patent: November 9, 1999Assignee: Telenor ASInventor: Ole J.o slashed.rgen Anfindsen
